The Ashburton Trotting Club is at risk of losing its hosting rights of the big ticket Harness Jewels to Addington Raceway, a loss that would carve hundreds of thousands of dollars out of the district’s economy. Harness Racing New Zealand (HRNZ) chief executive Edward Rennell confirmed that an application to hold the 2019 Jewels had been lodged by Addington, but said no decision had been made. “They’ve applied so we have to look at it,” he said.
