Heartfelt challenge triumph Padertova completes South Island fundraising walk Barbora Padertova (right) will always remember 6pm on Monday. That’s when her fundraising walk throughout the South Island ended in Bluff. Apart from a couple of breaks at Hanmer Springs and Methven, Barbora completed the journey in 68 days. “Finishing the walk is hard to describe,” she said. “It’ll take days before the feeling sinks in. “I had a chill all over my body.” She described her journey as like reading a good book. You want to finish it, but you don’t want it to end. Barbora, who’s the food and

beverage team leader at Mount Hutt Skifield, loves mountains and tramping. When she met Methven’s Becky Dirks, whose son, David, requires serious heart surgery, she decided to walk the length of the South Island to raise funds. The walk began in Picton on February 10 and she said the last few days in Southland were cold and muddy. “It was a challenge walking in harsh weather.’’ Barbora, 31, is delighted she’s raised nearly $2500 for Becky’s family and Heart Kids Canterbury, and she’s keeping the Givealittle page open until the end of May.
