Tourism is booming in the Ashburton District, with the overall visitor spend hitting $182 million for the year to June 30. The 7.8 per cent growth in spending came from significant growth in international visitors. This sector was up 16.6 per cent to $54 million last year. The largest growth came from the Singapore, Malyasia and Australian market, said Experience Mid Canterbury general
manager Bruce Moffatt. Domestic visitors spent $128m in the same period, up 4.5 per cent.
