Dramatic scenes unfolded in Tinwald on Tuesday night as police arrested two people in possession of weapons and methamphetamine, as well as cash that they had taken in a robbery earlier that night. A 23-year-old Kaiapoi woman and 30-year-old Rolleston man had allegedly met up with someone they knew in Tinwald, confronted them with a firearm and robbed them of money when they

were stopped in their tracks by police shortly after 8.30pm. Police pulled over their silver car near Lushingtons garden centre on the main road, arrested the two individuals and searched their vehicle. Residents reported seeing dozens of armed police officers involved in the operation, which caused the Tinwald bridge to close for several minutes. The road was cleared shortly before 9pm. A police spokesperson said the inci-

dent had not put the public’s safety at risk. The robbery victim and the two offenders all knew each other and had met up in their cars on the side of the road when the robbery took place. Both offenders were due to appear in Christchurch District Court yesterday. The woman was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and supplying methamphetamine and the man was charged with presenting a weapon and supplying methamphetamine.
