Thirty-two Mid Canterbury scouts boarded a bus at dawn today, bound for an adventure of a lifetime. The scouts, plus nine leaders, will spend the next 10 days under canvas at Renwick, Blenheim, as part of a major jamboree involving about 4500 people.

The jamboree happens every three years and the Mid Canterbury scouts have been fundraising for 18 months to cover the $1200 cost per person. Excitement levels were high as the group boarded the bus for a trip via Lewis Pass. They will arrive around 3pm then unpack tents, kitchen and washing facilities ready for action.

Scout Ryan Cox said he had sold pine cones and cooked plenty of sausages at fundraising sizzles and he was looking forward to the camp, especially the motorcycling activity.
