Probe into crash fatality continues Investigations into a fatal accident that claimed the life of a young Mid Canterbury apprentice gardener have entered their seventh week. Twenty-one-year old, David Morgan Muir of Tinwald, was killed when the car he was a passenger in crashed into a tree on a straight piece of road on the Methven Highway (State Highway 77) in the early hours of September 2 last month. Police confirmed yesterday, through a statement from their Police Media Team that certain details of the accident were

still being investigated and they were awaiting various findings before taking the next step in the process. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Ashburton Hospital following the accident after walking to a nearby house to raise the alarm. Detective Anthony Clare said that reports, which they were waiting on, would lead to a decision on what would happen next in the investigation. “We are currently awaiting specialist reports before a decision can be made as
to what the appropriate action is to take as a result of the investigation,” Clare said. “At this stage no charges have been laid and enquiries into the fatal crash are still ongoing.” Due to the nature and stage of the investigation, police could not confirm if alcohol or speed were factors in the accident.
