A CHANCE TO MOURN Ashburton Domain Oval TONIGHT 7PM

Mid Canterbury will get its chance to mourn the victims of last Friday’s terror attacks in Christchurch tonight at a vigil which is being held at the Ashburton Domain Oval at 7pm. Ashburton District Council yesterday announced the event would be held, stating that it

was intended to bring the community together to mourn those who have lost lives and show solidarity with our families, the Muslim community and with the people of Christchurch. “I know I speak for the people of the Ashburton District when I say how much we want

to come together and support our Muslim community and our Christchurch neighbours,” Ashburton Mayor Donna Favel said. “This vigil is a sign of our compassion and deepest condolences,” she said. The Ashburton District Coun-

cil has been liaising with leaders in the local Muslim community about the vigil and while there is no expectation for them to attend, an invitation has been formally extended. Lisa and Carl Anderson have organised 50 candles to be lit at the vigil and also 50 balloons
