Donna Favel now knows what it feels like to sit on the other side of the fence. The Ashburton District’s incumbent mayor yesterday confirmed that she would seek re-election at this year’s local government elections in October and instead of being the challenger doing the chasing, Favel is now the one be-
ing chased. “It’s a completely different situation than what I experienced last time around,” she said. Speculation has been rife around the district over the past couple of weeks that Favel, who has completed one term as mayor, would not seek to stand again, but on the eve of nominations officially opening, she decided to make her inten-
tions public. “I’ve taken my time to reflect, not only on my time as mayor, but also on my personal life and have come to the decision that I still feel I have something to give to the role,” she said.
