Stolen guns may be in gang hands Police believe two rifles stolen from a Tinwald business may have found their way into gang hands. The information came to light in the Ashburton District Court yesterday when Samuel Bryce Anglem appeared on burglary charges. Police prosecutor senior sergeant Mike Wingfield told the court Anglem and an associate had driven to Simply Pet Foods on Archibald Street at around 11pm on July 1. justice conference. Anglem has been held in custody since his arrest on Friday. Mr Wingfield told Judge Gary MacAskill police opposed bail due to concerns the stolen firearms had been sold to a gang “well known to New Zealand police”. Judge MacAskill convicted and remanded Anglem in custody for sentencing on August 29. While acknowledging Anglem’s prior offending put him out of reach for a community detention sentence, Mr Bradford said it could be within the range for home detention and the judge asked the presentence report to investigate the option.
