Eight people were charged in conjunction with the Mona Square attack. All listed their address as 21 McDonald Street. Another neighbour, Simon Green, confirmed the same family had occupied the address for several years. Those charged in connection with the brawl will stand trial at a
High Court sitting in Timaru next year. Police have alleged the group, described as gang affiliates, attacked three men in Mona Square on June 19, using sticks and a wheel brace as weapons. It was the third gang-related incident police had dealt with in 12 months. Two groups clashed in a park on Davis Crescent in August last year and festering emotions boiled over again outside the Ashburton Courthouse soon after, when some of the accused

On Monday night two men and a woman were assaulted by a group of eight people armed with baseball bats. The victims have remained unco-operative and refused to make a formal complaint. It is not known whether the incident was gang related.
