School parking ‘nightmare’ Narrow loss P24

Dropping children off at Methven Primary School and Mount Hutt College has turned into a nightmare for parents with traffic congestion and parking rule breaches. And the Ashburton District Council has washed its hands of the problem, saying it is up to the schools themselves
to take responsibility for the issue. Councillor and Methven Community Board member Liz McMillan referred yesterday at a meeting of the board to dropping her children to school that morning. “It was just a nightmare,” she said. McMillan said parents parked in noparking zones on McDonald Street. Board chairman Dan McLaughlin said
following the meeting he understood additional issues were parents using the drop-off zone at the end of the street as a parking area, leaving their cars there while they took their children into school.
