Winter showed there’s still a little bite left in its tail with more wet weather across Mid Canterbury yesterday. In some places around 60mm of rain fell in 24 hours, causing flooding and weather-related issues around the district – just weeks after a record-breaking deluge that soaked the very same land last month. Roading authorities warned motorists to take care with surface flooding
on roads around the district and people took to social media to flag problem spots on State Highways 1 and 72 as well as Ashburton Staveley Road and Bridge Street. Rain and snow, as low as Methven, came with a southerly storm that the MetService says will herald a week of unsettled weather. Mt Hutt was again the big winner out of the gloom with 85cm of new snow on the skifield, which remained closed yesterday so teams could clear access road
