IN TODAY’S GUARDIAN

Rangitata voters have a great opportunity tonight to find out more about their candidates before next Saturday’s general election. It’s meet-the-candidates night, organised by the Ashburton Citizens Association in conjunction with the Ashburton Guardian, at the Ashburton Trust Event Centre, beginning at 6pm. Guardian editor Matt Markham, who is compering the meeting, will begin the evening by introducing Andrew Falloon (National), Jo Luxton (Labour), Mojo Mathers (Green), Olly Wilson (The Opportu-

nities Party) and Tom Corbett (Act), and then asking them some lighthearted general knowledge questions to see how much they know about the Ashburton District. Markham will then run the candidates through five pre-determined questions that they have already been given. The candidates will have two minutes to reply to each question, before, time permitting, a short Q and A session involving members of the audience.

THE FIVE QUESTIONS ARE: –

Why are you standing in the Rangitata electorate and what will you do if you don’t get elected?

We need a strong attraction to keep the young people of the Ashburton District in the community – what would you do to encourage the youth to stay?

What impact do you feel your party’s policies will have on a small town like Ashburton?

What do you consider to be the best thing you have achieved in your career so far?

And how do you propose to achieve a sustainable economy while complementing environmental conservation?
