Residents’ satisfaction with the performance of their mayor and district councillors has slumped from a high of 94 per cent in 2011 to just 69 per cent this year. The black mark was delivered in the council’s annual residents’ survey that measured council’s performance across 44 categories and for many of those, satisfaction rankings were well down on last year. mayor and councillors was around decision making, where 40 per cent rated this as poor, while 27 per cent said elected members were serving their own agenda or business interests and 16 per cent said they did not listen to the community. Satisfaction with the performance of council staff, however remained high at 86 per cent. In terms of the information the council provided to residents over the past year, 82 per cent said they were satisfied with the quantity of information provided. Newspapers remained the number
one source of information, 76 per cent, followed by Facebook on 15 per cent. Ten per cent of those surveyed got their information from the council’s website. While there was plenty of bad news in the survey, there were some highlights and residents had a satisfaction rating of 89 per cent for their contact with the council.
