Ashburton has received almost one month’s rainfall in the past three days. As wet weather and flooding has hounded some areas of the country, a steady consistency has ensured Mid Canterbury has escaped relatively unscathed.
With roots stretching back to 1875 and supporting small to medium sized businesses, farms and families in Canterbury, Heartland offers Ashburton a local banking option that is New Zealand owned and operated. Terms and conditions: Interest compounds monthly. *Rate is as at 23 January 2017 but is subject to change without notice. See www.Heartland.co.nz for terms and conditions.

There has nevertheless been high rainfall in the district, with the MetService recording 25.4 millimetres falling on Sunday at its Ashburton airport automated weather station, as well as 17.2mm to 4pm yesterday and 10.8mm on Saturday. The total of 53.4mm is only 9mm shy of the long-term average rainfall for the site in the month of March, of 62mm.
Sunday was particularly wet in the town, with 29mm measured at the Niwa weather station in the Ashburton Domain. Methven was even wetter, receiving 29.8mm.
