Firefighters are urging people to keep safety in mind when dealing with petrol after dealing with two incidents in a week. The Pendarves Voluntary Rural Fire Force were called to a Pendarves property just before 8pm on Saturday evening after a man’s quad bike caught fire while he was refuelling it. “It was a guy who had been refuelling his motorbike and we are not 100 per
cent sure what happened, but the bike ignited,” chief fire officer Paul Stewart said. “It has burnt the petrol tank and the bike is a write-off. “The fire had stopped by the time we arrived and it was in the middle of a yard so there were no buildings in danger.” Stewart said while the man was not hurt and no buildings were damaged, there was potential for things to have ended much worse. “It is a good reminder for people to
be careful, this was next to a 600-litre petrol tank which is not what you want, and that was next to a diesel tank as well,” he said. The Saturday before a Tinwald man was taken to hospital with burns to his face, neck and arms after a backyard burnoff went wrong.
