Labour MP Jo Luxton has accused National MP Andrew Falloon of “scaremongering” as coalition talks proceed towards formation of a new government. Falloon beat Luxton in the election race for the Rangitata seat, but Luxton made it into Parliament as a List MP. As speculation mounts on which party New Zealand First leader Winston Peters will choose as the next government, Falloon yesterday took a swipe at Labour and the Greens. He said that it was important for Mid Canterbury that Peters chose to go with National. “Labour and the Greens would scrap

stand to benefit from whatever coalition deal is decided on. Ashburton Greypower president Peter Thomas said he would welcome Peters managing to sway National into keeping the retirement age at 65. While Labour and the Greens were happy to retain the current age, National is planning to raise it to 67 in 2030. Personally, Thomas wanted to see the age retained at 65. “He’s in a strong position to negotiate,” Thomas said. Peters is also expected to win key concessions around the SuperGold card, which he wants to extend to a comprehensive e-wallet providing discounts on healthcare and maybe even power bills.
