Hosing restrictions could be canned in Ashburton this summer, but the new watering freedom will come with a few conditions. Yesterday the Ashburton District Council’s service delivery committee threw out a plan to give its parks and reserves department preferential wa-
tering rights over the summer months, replacing this with a proposal to scrap hosing restrictions altogether in Ashburton. A recommendation that would have exempted the council’s parks and reserves department from the hosing restrictions that applied to home owners failed to fly. Just four councillors – Stuart Wilson, Darryl Nelson, Don
McLeod and Alan Totty – thought it was a good idea. Their fellow councillors and Ashburton Mayor Angus McKay were adamant there should be one rule only and that it should apply equally to residents and to the council.
