The wait for an information base in central Ashburton will now be a long one, with a plan to re-open Ashburton’s i-SITE now canned. After months of planning and growing community support, a proposal to kickstart the East Street

information centre by a group known as the Information Hub, has fallen at its final hurdle – securing a lease that gave longevity to their project. Tony Todd, David West and Paul Mullen formed a group they called the Information Hub. Their goal was to start an information business in the i-SITE building, one that would fill the gap left by the i-SITE closure.

Critical to their plan’s success was securing a lease from the building’s owner, the Ashburton District Council. While a lease was offered, it was only short term. And that, West said, made it very difficult to develop a solid business plan.
