Street attack appalling – judge W in DVDs P13
The victim of a serious attack outside the Devon Hotel last year will receive $7500 from the four men who beat him. The assault was captured on security cameras and showed the man being held on the ground between two parked cars while the group punched, kicked and stomped on him. He cannot remember the incident. Four men charged over the attack were in the Ashburton District Court
yesterday for sentencing by Judge Joanna Maze. John Harawira Tu, Lucan Colin Culshaw and Kahn Joseph Culshaw admitted charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, while William Barney Charles Wilson admitted a charge of assault with intent to injure. Tu, considered the primary offender, was sentenced to 12 months’ home detention and has already paid $3000
