For more than 20 years Park Street Day Care has been home-awayfrom-home to thousands of older Mid Cantabrians. They’ve come to share a meal, a chat and entertainment with friends in purpose-built rooms at St Stephen’s Church.

It’s been a daily gathering for many that’s had the added benefit of being part of a church community where there’s a steady stream of events and visitors. Next year the day care centre is on the move to new rooms at Ashburton Hospital. The move is about providing additional space for extra ser-

vices such as rehabilitation and diversional therapy sessions, but it’s also about utilising Ashburton Hospital’s facilities better. It’s a move, St Stephen’s vicar Joan Clark has concerns about, saying it could see the homely aspect of the service disappear. “We’re afraid they’ll lose the family atmosphere they have here.
