Cat shot in Hampstead By Jaime Pitt-MacKay Jaime.p@theguardian.co.nz

A Hampstead cat owner has been left upset and concerned after her cat came home this week with what appeared to be a wound from an air rifle. After being in and out of the house all day on Tuesday, Annette Whyte’s cat Oscar was last seen unharmed at 6pm. When he returned home at around 8pm, he was bleeding.

“After clipping back the hair and bathing the area in an iodine solution it revealed a perfect hole,” she said. Unfortunately for Oscar, this has not been his first time as a victim of an air rifle. He was hit a similar time last year, and Whyte’s other cat Monty had also received two similar injuries on his back. “No wounds were from other animals,” she said.
