Ashburton’s i-SITE has been closed for a year and the rumblings of discontent over that closure are still rolling in the community, says Tony Todd, leader of a large protest rally over the closure. He was outspoken about the need to keep the centre open and since its closure he has been working with a group of locals on a proposal to reopen the building as an information centre and
more. Last month Todd and his team spoke at an Ashburton District Council meeting about their plans, and they have now been thrown in the mix with several other proposals from potential users of the building. In spite of efforts by councillor Stuart Wilson, those proposals were discussed by councillors behind closed doors.
