Donald Campbell is a man who wishes he could forget, but knows he never will. This was the day one year ago that the love of his life and soul mate Peg Noble was killed in the Winz tragedy which rocked Ashburton. Mr Campbell and Ms Noble lived just a few blocks from the site forever marked by the awful events of September 1 and Mr Campbell continues to live there today, in the same unit, which is pretty much the same today as it was when he shared it with his partner of 11 years. “We only rent, but still everything here we have done together,” Mr Campbell, 58, said. Peg was camera-shy, but a family member managed to snap a photo of her enjoying Donald’s daughter’s 21st,

and this sits at the top of the loungeroom cabinet. Her big smile beams across the room, giving Donald the sense she is still here. ily and Peg helped raise his youngest, Nicola, throughout her teenage years. “Peg spoilt her rotten,” Mr Campbell recalled. It was a testimony to her big heart, as those years certainly had their typical teenage moments. Donald considers himself a positive person and believes he is moving along with his life.
