Land Acknowledgement

Ashbury College acknowledges its campus is located on the traditional, unceded territory of the Anishinàbe Omàmìwininì Algonquin Nation whose presence here reaches back to time immemorial. We recognize the Anishinàbe Omàmìwininì Algonquin Nation as the traditional keepers and stewards of the Ottawa River Watershed and its tributaries. We honour their long history and ongoing protection of this land and their role in caring for this beautiful territory. We recognize the enduring existence and contributions of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit across Turtle Island. As an educational institution, we are committed to increasing the awareness of Indigenous peoples, advancing Truth and Reconciliation and developing meaningful and positive partnerships with Indigenous peoples in our region.

MESSAGE FROM NORMAN SOUTHWARD

Head of School

The 2024-2025 academic year concluded with successful IB and school examinations completed and school closing ceremonies celebrating the accomplishments of our students both in and outside the classroom. Graduates are well-positioned to move on to a range of university programs. Dedicated and inspirational faculty and staff continue to support Ashbury students so well.

The Ontario Ministry of Education Inspection was completed in April, serving as our baseline accountability for granting credits leading to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), with a highly favourable result. Ashbury’s also signed the Nature and Climate Leadership Pledge on Earth Day, which will help advance various initiatives to preserve our natural environment and heritage campus. Community wellness was in focus with Ashbury’s participation in the Ontario Health and Peer Relations Survey. This long-term study will provide a benchmark and help us identify necessary supports for student well-being over the next seven years.

Several staff Retirements were recognized at the end-of-year events for several long-standing and high-impact teachers who are well known by over 30 years of Ashbury graduates.

This year, the Ashbury community was engaged in a community-wide consultation to renew our strategic plan. What has emerged is a reinforcement of our key values, ensuring that students can “thrive together in a changing world” while embodying our school motto of Probitas, Virtus, Comitas—Honesty, Courage, upholding student success and well-being, cultivating a strong sense of community and belonging, and being future-ready and technologically advanced, while staying grounded to the natural world.

Like the Ottawa, Rideau, and Gatineau rivers linking communities, Ashbury College has long been a guiding current in the lives of our students. As we look ahead, the river becomes our metaphor for resilience, purpose, and progress—for Ashbury and for each and every student.

Finally, congratulations to the 145 graduates from the Class of 2025—sants! Je tiens de plus à féliciter tous les jeunes qui ont persévéré tout au long de l’année—bravo et bonnes vacances à toutes et à tous! And, of course, to our teachers, staff, volunteers, Board, and Foundation, thank you—merci for all the support in strengthening our school community this year.

Norman Southward

MESSAGE FROM DR. MELISSA FORGIE

Chair, Ashbury College Board of Governors

On behalf of the Board of Governors of Ashbury College, I would like to thank the faculty, staff, leadership team, Governors, Foundation, and parent and alumni volunteers who contributed to the college’s success in the 2024-25 academic year. J’aimerais remercier tous ceux qui ont contribué au succès de nos élèves cette année. Ashbury is moving from strength to strength, and the development of a new straexperience. With enrollment remaining strong and a growing focus on endowment for those wishing to access an Ashbury education can continue to do so in the future. The Ashbury campus continues to shine with impressive facilities and renewal projects slated for the future. Our teachers of long service, who retired this year, are such an essential part of the permanent fabric of the Ashbury College community.

Board committees and the Strategic Plan Task Force have successfully maintained our traditions of academic excellence, innovation, character, and sustainability for the future.

Thank you – merci,

MESSAGE FROM HUGH SCOTT ’88

Chair, Ashbury College Foundation Board

Philanthropy fuels excellence and drives meaningful impact by advancing our mission, broadening our reach, and expanding access for deserving students. As Chair of the Ashbury College Foundation, I’m proud of the strides our community has made to support talented and deserving students. But our work is long-term investment in the future of Ashbury and the leaders we help shape. By growing our endowment, we can ensure that Ashbury remains accessible to exceptional

One of the most inspiring examples of this impact is the recent success of the BGC Bursary (formerly the Boys and Girls Club). This partnership has enabled students from underrepresented communities to thrive at Ashbury, enriching our school culture and excelling both academically and personally. Their stories are a powerful reminder of what’s possible when opportunity meets determination.

To all who have supported Ashbury College, thank you. Your generosity is changing lives and strengthening the very fabric of our community.

In June 2024, we marked the retirements of teachers Michelle Holman, Lisa Lewicki, Alyssa Novick, and Derek Taylor, as well as Professional Development and Instructional Advisor Kendal Young and Director of Human Resources Bill Palamar. Together, these staff members have contributed more years of service than the school’s 134-year history. We are grateful for their dedication and contributions.

In September, a delegation of 13 students attended the Round Square International Conference in Colombia, which included 113 schools and brought over 900 delegates from 27 countries. Students participated in thought-provoking discussions following the keynote speakers. They had the opportunity to take part in many activities, including mask-making, constructing a chicken shed, and an awe-inspiring hike.

As part of our Earth Day celebrations, Ashbury proudly signed a Climate and Nature Leadership Pledge, committing to a future where sustainability leads the way in our decisions and our actions.
