April 2nd Program

Welcome from Governor Maura T. Healey
2
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2024 Governor’s Conference on Travel & Tourism! I want to personally thank you for attending this conference as we come together for the first time in nearly a decade to celebrate and elevate tourism in Massachusetts.
We are thrilled to work with the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism to bring you a full day of learning opportunities, networking, and panel discussions designed to enrich your knowledge and deepen your connection and dedication to our tourism industry.
We have a beautiful state to share with our visitors! From Boston to the Berkshires, the North Shore to the Cape and Islands, our 351 cities and towns have something special for everyone to enjoy. I would like to thank you all for the crucial part you play, every single day, in promoting Massachusetts to our potential and repeat visitors and residents.
As tourism specialists, you work diligently and collaboratively year-round to showcase the beauty, history, and diverse culture of Massachusetts.
Today, we will also celebrate and give awards to four individuals each representing excellence in tourism.
As Governor, with your help, I am putting our new Economic Development Plan, Team Massachusetts: Leading Future Generations, into action. We have filed the Mass Leads Act, which will support businesses small and large across our state, extend our lead in the innovation economy, and invest in key sectors including tourism and arts and culture. To that end, soon, we will be embarking – together –on a new tourism strategy for Massachusetts.
We could not be more proud of, or committed to, the tourism industry that shares our great state with the world. Congratulations to you all for your continued successes and I thank you for your leadership as tourism professionals. Have a wonderful conference.
Maura T. Healey Governor

You will have the chance to network with your peers, attend interesting tourism-related breakout sessions designed to enhance and expand your knowledge and help you learn about what’s new in the tourism industry. Welcome from Michelle Wu Mayor of Boston
Dear Friends,
I’m honored to welcome the Governor’s Conference on Travel & Tourism back to Boston after almost a decade!
Boston is a city with a rich history and a bright future, where tradition and innovation share the same block. That unique spirit draws millions of visitors to Boston each year, and invites them to not only experience all that our city has to offer—from iconic landmarks and international flavors, to world-class sports, arts, and entertainment—but to contribute to our shared culture and community, another vibrant thread in the colorful fabric of our city.
Tourism doesn’t just sustain local businesses, create jobs, and generate revenue that supports essential services and infrastructure—it deepens understanding across language, place, and culture. It fosters a sense of
connection and belonging. Here in Boston, tourism isn’t about making sure our city is seen; it’s about inviting the world to see itself in our story—in the values we uphold, the aspirations we reach for. It’s about bringing all of us a little closer together.
We’re so excited you’re here. I wish you a meaningful and successful conference and look forward to seeing you again soon.
Sincerely,
Michelle Wu Mayor of Boston

Welcome from Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism Executive Director Kate Fox
Welcome to the 2024 Governor’s Conference on Travel & Tourism! I am extremely excited to be spending the day learning and networking with peers, industry professionals, and elected leadership.
We are honored to be joined by Governor Healey, Lt. Governor Driscoll, Secretary Hao, and the Chairs of both the Committee for Tourism Arts and Culture and the Special Commission on the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution, Senator Mark and Representative Domb. We are grateful for the considerable support of tourism across the state and the engagement in MA250 as a catalyst for marketing, communications, and increased visitation.
I am also grateful for everyone working in tourism and hospitality across Massachusetts. As we know, the tourism industry provides us with employment opportunities that range from summer jobs to post-retirement part-time opportunities, to fulfilling life-long careers. If visitor spending is the lifeblood of our industry, you are the heart of it, and I thank you for keeping the beat going in Massachusetts!
We hope you enjoy the panels, presentations, entertainment, networking opportunities and exhibitors today. The team at MOTT has worked hard to bring together today’s agenda, and I want to acknowledge Charlie Ticotsky, Daniela DeCaro-Heavey, Sheila Green, and Phyllis Cahaly for their planning work. When you see them today, offer up a high five or a pat on the back!
This is the first annual Governor’s Conference of the Healey-Driscoll Administration, and we’re already working on the 2025 conference. I hope your only complaint today is having to choose two of the six excellent concurrent sessions, but if we missed something or you have a great idea for next year, please complete the post-conference survey that you will receive via e-mail.
I wish you all the best for a great day and a prosperous 2024 tourism season.
Sincerely,
Kate Fox Executive Director
