The transition from homeschool to private school was the greatest challenge I have experienced so far. This was a very important time in my life because it was when I really discovered who I am, who I want to be, and how I am different from others. Since everything was already so new and different for me, I decided to try anything and everything that looked interesting. I have learned to come out of my shell and be less anxious in new situations, and I have started paying more attention to what is going on in the world around me. I want to understand how other people view the world based on the things they have been through.

I utilized the design-thinking technique, and brought fresh ideas about improving residents’ moods through expanding their preferred spaces and access to plants and nature. Seeing the positive impacts the renovations brought to them, I am empowered that I have found my passion in architecture, one that motivates me to take initiative, persevere, and give back to my community.

During my sophomore year, I endured my first-ever significant knee injury. When this happened, I realized I would have to step away from being a star player and help my team in another manner: becoming a junior varsity coach. My new goal was to inspire my teammates rather than have the focus be on what I had lost. I wanted my teammates to see that I was making the best of the cards I had been dealt with. This knee injury humbled me, but it opened my eyes to see that I can still be a leader in the classroom and on the field even when I am not playing. When I realized this, I felt a shift in my personality; my friends and teachers even started to wonder why I became happier after suffering a horrific injury. My answer to their question was that I realized I can still be Hasmit with or without football.

Living in a house of all women may be chaotic at times, but the emotional depth that we possess and the bonds we have been able to grow have shaped me into the person I am today. My Mom taught me that I have no limits but those I set for myself; there are no such things as set gender roles. I can love pink and fashion, but also be a skilled weed wacker.

The women in my life have always uplifted me. I want to continue to be competitive and strong, but also encourage the success of others.

The Tad Bird Honors College

is a four-year program that encourages highly engaged, curious All Saints’ students to pursue intellectual passions and servant leadership opportunities in creative and innovative ways. Cohorts establish a humanities mindset through classes like “Inquiry and Analysis” and then leverage those skills to complete a Junior Honors Thesis and defense, which will ultimately form the focus of their Senior Capstone Project.

TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY Construction Sciences In Addie’s Junior Honors Thesis, she evaluated how middle-class housing is shrinking and zoning policies have contributed to the problem.
