Project Solutions Competition Thank you for your interest in the 2018 Associate Schools of Construction Project Solutions competition! Mortenson & Procore are excited to extend your university team an invitation to compete in our national open division that will test your construction knowledge, teamwork, and ability to adapt. Our problem statement format has been built to reflect realistic project scenarios your team may face after graduation. Taking on the roles of various newly hired project staff, your team will be immersed in the middle of an ongoing project and tasked with the responsibility of reacting to major owner driven changes. Acting in the role of your company’s executives and managers, the judging panel will be counting on you to develop the project recovery plan that will impress our important client at the next OAC meeting (owner, architect, contractor). In addition to an exciting project format, the Project Solutions division will be exclusively delivered through Procore’s online construction management system! Experience with Procore is not required, and all students will be provided an opportunity to become familiar with the web interface prior to competing. We believe digital delivery of our competition will only enhance the overall learning experience for our student competitors. 2 Scoring 2.1 Prequalification Teams will receive their prequalification work packages approximately one month prior to the competition. Each team will be scored on completeness of material and proper setup of their projects in Procore. Prequalification work packages are due the Friday before competition. Project setup corrections will be allowed as necessary the day prior to competition.
2.2 Teamwork Judges will be observing how your team works together while preparing written proposals throughout the day. Key areas of review will include room setup, communication, agility, and task distribution among others.
2.3 Written Deliverables The written proposal will be prepared by each team the day of competition and must be submitted by the time stipulated in order to receive consideration. Written proposals will be scored on overall organization, neatness, and completeness. Specific requirements and page limits will be detailed for each deliverable. Deliverables submitted through Procore to include but are not limited to: • • • • • • • • • •

2.4 Presentation Formal presentation order will be selected at random by teams upon submission of their written proposals on Thursday evening. Teams will be required to then submit their presentation files Friday morning prior to the first presentation. Teams are allowed and encouraged to practice their presentation up until their designated time slot. Team presentations will be judged on the basis of organization, content, communication, and poise under pressure. Presentation format will be as follows: • •

3 Rules 3.1 Team Teams are limited to six (6) members registered through prequalification. No substitutions will be allowed once the prequalification form is submitted. All team members must be enrolled fulltime at their respective college or university. Name tags must be worn at all times displaying the individual member’s name, along with their respective team name. Teams must work on their proposal in one (1) hotel room and submit the room number with the prequalification form (if available). Materials required to complete the written proposal including but not limited to computers, books, and resource materials must be present and ready in your team’s competition room prior to receiving the problem statement Thursday morning. Maximum of two (2) additional monitors are allowed per team.
3.2 Outside Contact Once the problem statement is distributed Thursday morning teams are prohibited from contact with their coaches, other teams, and anyone other than their teammates. Internet access will also be prohibited upon receipt of the problem statement, with exception of the connection required to access and run Procore. Internet connection for Procore access will be provided by the sponsors companies. Cloud based data storage is also prohibited other than the specific file structure provided through Procore. Any files or reference material for completion of the competition deliverables must be physically present (hard drive, books, etc).
3.3 Violations Any violation of these rules, along with those added after the distribution of this document, are grounds for team dismissal from the competition. All materials and equipment located within the competition room after the problem statement is received is subject to inspection by the judging panel if deemed necessary. The judging panel reserves the right to revise and update the aforementioned competition outline as final details are determined.
