MANHATTAN HOPE Heroin Overdose Prevention & Education

How Manhattan HOPE works: If you are arrested for possessing a controlled substance in violation of penal law section 220.03 and receive a Desk Appearance Ticket (DAT), a police officer will contact the New York County District Attorney’s Office (DA’s Office) to see if you are eligible for a free diversion program called Manhattan HOPE. If you are eligible, the DA’s Office will contact Alliance, which dispatches a Peer Navigator to the police precinct to discuss treatment and harm reduction options with you. If you are interested, you are then enrolled in the program.

The program requires two steps: 1) You must complete an intake assessment within seven days of your arrest.

2) You must participate in one or two mandatory engagements with Alliance within 30 days of your intake date.

Once you have completed Manhattan HOPE, the District Attorney’s Office will decline to prosecute your case, and you will not need to go to court.

If you do not complete Manhattan HOPE, you must appear in court on your court date listed on your Desk Appearance Ticket (DAT).
