OUR HISTORY

Welcoming over 300,000 visitors annually, Anne Springs Close Greenway is a 2,100-acre protected nature reserve promoting recreation and learning activities for the entire region. The Greenway is operated by Leroy Springs & Company (LSC), a non-profit company established in 1938 dedicated to supporting the recreation, education and community needs of citizens. The Greenway is part of a family of brands including FLYERS Afterschool, four golf courses across South Carolina and Springmaid Mountain Retreat in Spruce Pine, NC. LSC employs over 600 people in the local community.

It was not until the late 1980’s that LSC began to receive property donations from the Close family for what would eventually become the Anne Springs Close Greenway. On Earth Day of 1995, the Anne Springs Close Greenway was dedicated for public use, honoring Anne Springs Close’s lifelong dedication to recreation and the environment.

Anne Springs Close carved a niche as one of South Carolina’s foremost environmentalists and philanthropists. Daughter of Colonel Springs, a World War I flying ace and textile tycoon, she grew up hiking, canoeing and horseback riding around Fort Mill. She loved the outdoors and encouraged others to find joy there.

As a local leader in conservation, education and outdoor recreation, Anne Springs Close Greenway offers limitless opportunities for organizations, both large and small, to make an impact. The Corporate Trailblazer program creates a pathway for corporate groups to develop long term partnerships that fit with their company’s priorities and provides a progressive benefits package for their employees and customers. As a non-profit organization, the Greenway receives no state or federal funding to build, maintain and operate trails and facilities and relies on corporate partnerships, memberships and donors to support its mission.

All corporate partnerships receive Anne Springs Close Greenway memberships, allowing for unlimited visits within 12 months. GREEN GALA THEMED, BLACK-TIE EVENT The Green Gala, co-hosted by the Greenway Ladies Guild, is the Greenway’s longest running fundraising event. Started in 2016 and held at the Founders Dairy Barn, this event has become one of the most sought-after happenings in Fort Mill. Raising more than $1 million since inception, the Green Gala provides incredible support for the land, mission and operations of the Anne Springs Close Greenway. Typically held in late February or early March, the event includes a seated dinner, music, live and silent auctions, dancing and delicious food and drinks from the Greenway’s on-site catering.

FORE THE BRIDGE GOLF TOURNAMENT The Fore The Bridge Golf Tournament aims to raise funds for the Anne Springs Close Bridge Program. This program provides support to those without financial access to Leroy Springs & Co. programs and facilities, including FLYERS Afterschool, summer camps, Greenway family memberships and the Greenway’s education programs. Since 2018, the Bridge Program has awarded over $2 million to residents in South and North Carolina. Typically held in mid-October, the tournament takes place at Fort Mill Golf Club and welcomes golfers of all skill levels who want to enjoy a day on the course while supporting their community.

ROOTED RHYTHM CONCERT SERIES MAY-JULY Thousands of local Greenway members and visitors attend the Greenway’s Rooted Rhythm Concert Series each summer. This series features a Thursday evening concert each week with hot bands, cold drinks and delicious food. Weekly concerts take place at the Comporium Amphitheater at the Dairy Barn entrance, an inviting outdoor venue featuring lawn-style seating under a shady tree canopy. Music runs from 6 to 9pm, providing the perfect way to wind down summer evenings with live performances and breathtaking sunset views over the Greenway. The high-energy shows appeal to attendees of all ages, and even friendly dogs!
