1. About ASB

The American School of Bombay is a PreK–12 school serving approximately 600 students in Mumbai, India ASB is authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) and accredited by the Middle States Association (MSA)

The 2026–2027 school year marks a significant institutional transition. The current Head of School is completing his tenure, and an incoming Head of School will assume leadership in July 2027. The Board of Trustees is commissioning a new multi-year strategic plan to guide the incoming Head through the first years of his tenure and position ASB for continued excellence.

2. Purpose and Scope

ASB is seeking a qualified strategic planning consultant to facilitate the development of the school's next multi-year strategic plan Community data collection has already been completed; the selected consultant will not need to design or administer surveys or listening sessions. The primary work involves:

• Synthesizing and presenting community data findings to key stakeholder groups

• Facilitating collaborative sense-making to identify strategic priorities

• Supporting the senior Leadership Team and Board in developing goals, strategies, and actions

• Producing a final strategic plan document suitable for public communication and implementation

The consultant should be experienced with international schools, transitions in school leadership, and IB contexts Knowledge of the Mumbai or South Asia international school landscape is preferred

3. Context: A Transition Year

This strategic plan is explicitly designed to serve a leadership transition. The current Head of School and the incoming Head of School will both be involved in the process. The consultant must be capable of navigating this context with professional judgment honoring institutional continuity while creating ownership and energy for the incoming leader and his team.

The Board expects the plan to be the incoming Head's plan in spirit and in practice, even as it draws on the community's voice gathered during the current administration

5. Deliverables

Consultant onboarding; attendance at August 22 Board Retreat; data review; stakeholder briefings

Data synthesis sessions with LT, Board, and community representatives; strategic priority identification (preferably with Ben in attendance for October meeting)

Goal and strategy development; drafting of plan framework ready for January 30 Board Retreat (preferably with Ben and Consultant in attendance for Retreat), for review and refinement

Final strategy refinement

Strategic plan launch and community communication (at AGM)

The consultant is expected to deliver:

• A synthesis report of existing community data, organized by theme and stakeholder group

• Facilitated working sessions with SLT, Board, and relevant community stakeholders (in person or hybrid, as agreed)

• A strategic plan document: multi-year goals, strategies, and success indicators

• An executive summary suitable for community publication

• A brief implementation guidance note for the incoming Head of School

6. Proposal Requirements

Proposals should be submitted as a single PDF and include:

• Consultant or firm background and relevant experience (international schools, IB, leadership transitions)

• Proposed approach and methodology

• Proposed timeline and key milestones

• Team composition and lead consultant biography

• References from at least two comparable school engagements

• Fee structure (total project fee and breakdown by phase)
