Herd Health:

Delivery:

Ask any cattle buyer today and they will tell you that two of the most important factors when they are buying your cattle are genetics and health. Our cattle have been developed under our very extensive health protocol. All animals and the entire Trinity Farms breeding herd are properly vaccinated and boostered annually with Inforce 3 (2x in calves) Bovishield Gold 5 FP5 VL5 HB (3x in yearlings by sale time), Ultra Choice 8 (3x per year), One shot (pasturella), Multimin, Vitamin A&D, Pinkeye vaccine at branding, injectable de-wormer at branding, pour on de-wormer at weaning, and Valbazen drench in the fall for internal parasites and liver flukes. All heifers are calfhood vaccinated for Brucellosis and every calf born each year is tested for BVD-PI. Free choice salt and minerals are provided year round as required.

We offer free delivery on any bull up to 300 miles to a central point and free delivery on 5 or more bulls up to 500 miles to a central point. All other deliveries are made at cost. We will make every attempt to deliver bulls directly to your ranch when we can. All females are delivered at cost. All cattle will be delivered at the buyer’s risk. Our goal is to complete all deliveries by the end of March and will do all that we can to assist you in getting females delivered to you at the lowest possible cost. With our spring field work and AI programs starting in late March, it makes completing our deliveries by the end of March necessary, your cooperation in this regard is greatly appreciated. For those of you making volume purchases, please contact Robb to arrange for special freight considerations.

Breeding Soundness Exam:

Your bulls may be kept at Trinity Farms free of charge until March 15th 2017. Your bulls may be kept here until May 1st 2017 if needed, feed and care will be charged @$4.00/day. Although we will care for the bulls to the best of our ability, they are here at your own risk and we recommend that you insure your bulls to protect your investment. Any bulls being fed at Trinity Farms past the delivery schedule will need to be picked up by the buyer.

Don Peter, DVM. All bulls will have passed a breeding soundness exam and will be declared satifactory breeders. Scrotal circumferences are available in this catalog. All females have been palpated and vet inspected.

Semen Interest:

Trinity Farms is reserving a 50% net revenue semen interest in every bull. You have full possession of the bull and retain all salvage value. This just provides Trinity Farms the right to 50% of the net revenue semen sales in the event that future semen sales on your bull become a possibility. As many bulls are being “discovered” later in life with the increasing use of AI in commercial settings, this allows for maximum opportunity for you as the buyer as well as Trinity Farms. You are free to collect the bull as you see fit and that is something that we certainly encourage on higher value bulls as a way to protect your investment. If the buyer is not interested in collecting or marketing semen from a bull, Trinity has the right to collect a semen bank on the bull at our cost and the buyer’s convenience. This semen bank would be 100% owned by Trinity Farms for use in our program or marketing efforts. On those bulls where opportunity exists, we are excited to be able to continue our relationship with you in a marketing effort and will be glad to visit with you about those specifics when the time arises.

Insurance:

Livestock mortality insurance will be available sale day through Stockmens Insurance Agency LLC.

Announcements:

Announcements from the auction block regarding all cattle selling take precedence over printed material in the sale book or other printed material associated with this sale.

Liability:

Trinity Farms’ representatives or any of the sale staff assume no liability, legal or otherwise for any accidents or injuries that may occur. Each animal will become the buyer’s risk as soon as the animal is sold.

Terms and Conditions:

Performance Data:

Terms of the sale shall be cash, bankable check, Visa or Mastercard to be settled on sale day unless prior arrangements have been made. We will be charging a 3% fee on all card charges. Cattle sell under the suggested Terms and Conditions of the American Angus Association (http://www.angus.org /Pub/ suggested_ sale _terms .pdf) and the American Simmental Association.

All EPDs, birth weights, weaning weights, and ratios are official data processed with the ASA and AAA. This catalog contains scrotal data, ultrasound data, and updated utrasound EPDs. All EPDs are current as of Spring 2017

The Northwest’s Unprecedented Guarantee

Your business is important to us and we want to continue to provide you with the value you have come to expect from Trinity Farms. As such, we have enhanced our guarantee and feel this is yet another competitive advantage you will experience when you deal with Trinity Farms. Our bulls have been developed under a very comprehensive health protocol. In addition, they have been evaluated for structural soundness, fertility, and disposition. All bulls have been veterinarian inspected and have passed a pre-sale breeding soundness exam as well. As such, all are guaranteed breeders and carry our full warranty when adequate animal husbandry has been provided. We will cover bulls and females for their first breeding season as follows: First breeding season shall be defined as the 70 day period following the date of first turn out of the bulls. Any guarantees will be covered by a satisfactory replacement if available, or in the form of a sale credit on future purchases in the amount of said credit. Guarantee will allow for purchase price less salvage value and adjusted accordingly. We do not guarantee bulls to freeze semen. Unprecedented 3 year guarantee: Any bull purchased through our annual bull sale will be guaranteed for up to 3 breeding seasons from date of sale against structural unsoundness due to foot shape, or failure to pass a breeding soundness exam when completed by a licensed and experienced DVM. Should a bull become structurally unsound due to foot shape or not pass a breeding soundness exam, a veterinarian certificate along with photos must be provided by the purchaser. Trinity Farms reserves the right to have a bull reevaluated at a different clinic if requested. This guarantee will apply providing that said bull’s incapacity is not the result of inadequate animal husbandry, illness, disease, injury, trich, scrotal and testicular freeze damage, white cells, founder or laminitis since leaving Trinity Farms. The purchase price, less salvage value is reduced by 1/3 for each breeding season in a calendar year since date of purchase. (when using bulls for multiple breeding seasons, i.e. spring and fall, that will be considered 2 breeding seasons in that calendar year) It is important to understand that normal care and adequate animal husbandry must be provided as we cannot fully replace a bull that is injured or dies for any reason. We recommend that you insure your animals against injury. This includes practices of not running younger bulls with older bulls, having too many bulls in relation to cow numbers, too small of pastures when bulls are run together, and making sure to care for your young bulls immediately after an abbreviated breeding season (45 to 70 days). Livestock mortality insurance is available sale day through American Livestock insurance. Testing your bulls 40 days prior to turnout each year is recommended, better yet is to test your bulls before bull sale season has passed in the event you need to replace any bulls. Most often, bulls retested at 30 days will retest OK, but you do not want to discover that you may have a potential problem the day before you turn bulls out.

Guarantee on Open Heifers

All open heifers have been palpated and veterinarian inspected prior to the sale. Every open heifer is guaranteed open at time of sale and guaranteed to be a satisfactory breeder provided that adequate animal husbandry and nutritional health has been provided. If for some reason a female does not breed, a veterinarians certificate stating that the animal is in good health and adequate condition shall be required prior to any settlement. Trinity Farms reserves the right to have the female returned if deemed necessary. Any guarantees will be covered by a satisfactory replacement if available, or in the form of a sale credit on future purchases in the amount of said credit. Guarantee will allow for purchase price less salvage value and adjusted accordingly.

Bull Buying Simplified…

By Marty Ropp, Allied Genetic Resource

If you are among the many out there who feel as if it is becoming more difficult to identify the genetics you need to move forward and make more profit, hopefully the following words will be of help. There is little doubt that the amount of information that is presented to bull buyers these days can get a tick much to evaluate thoroughly, especially when you only use that information a couple of days each year. The good news is that if you are becoming overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of data presented at bull buying time, then your genetic supplier is collecting and using the most up to date tools to improve the genetics you are hoping to benefit from. That is absolutely their job! Part of their responsibility then is also to present that information in an easy to use fashion and help provide service, answers to your questions and even education regarding the data they present. Here are a few simple tips to make your decisions at bull buying time a little easier.

1. Wh er e you b uy and who yo u b u y fr o m is as imp or tan t as wh ich b ulls you pu r chase. Reputation, warrantee, genetic program, service options and proper bull development are all crucial to consider before you choose where to purchase. If a breeder is doing a great job improving their genetic product year after year, your herd will absolutely move in the same direction as theirs almost regardless of which bulls you choose to use. Unfortunately the opposite is also the case. Therefore, the last bull in the sale still has to offer genetic improvement or they shouldn’t be selling it to their customers. So buy from folks who offer value from top to bottom, coupled with great service and you won’t make mistakes.

2. Prior itize EPDs over raw data. EPDs are simply the best estimate available of a young bull’s value. I know it is hard to break old habits, but the predictive value of a Weaning Weight EPD is so much better than the calf’s actual weaning weight it is not even funny. These EPDs consider the genetics of every ancestor, the actual weight comparisons of the calf crop and even the DNA information in some cases. That is a lot of good stuff in one number, so just cross off the raw weights…if you can.

3. Use the indexes to simplify your decision making. Most breeds now offer $Value indexes to help you choose genetics. Choose the right index (All Purpose, Terminal, etc.) and these values can be a great guide to getting in the right pen of bulls for your program. If you are unsure of the “best” index values to look at, ask your genetic supplier or professional for help. Once you choose which index to rank your choices, go out into that group of bulls and pick the ones you prefer for soundness, muscling, disposition, testicle size and all of the other traits you need in your operation. Don’t misunderstand, I would never say the highest $ value index bull is absolutely the best bull, but choosing from the bulls that offer leading or above average profit potential just makes good sense. Avoid bulls with poor index values, no matter how good they might look to avoid the big genetic wrecks down the line.

4. Ask for assistance. Most of us would never buy a combine, seed, feed or fertilizer without being fully educated or employing expertise in the process. Genetic decisions too have long term profit implications. Your genetic supplier is absolutely supposed to be your partner in this process. Get their input when you can or work with someone who makes genetic decisions every day to leverage their experience and expertise in the process. Genetics are becoming higher priced, so make an extra effort to take home great value for your investment.

Genomic-Enhanced EPDs

Why DNA test? We have been asking ourselves that same question for a while now. Our foray into DNA testing started years ago with confirmation of parentage and testing for homozygosity for color and polled/horned traits. Then with the uproar that surrounded genetic defects a few years ago, we added another layer to our DNA testing profiles. Our recent experience with testing for genomic enhancement began with testing of a few select bulls each year that we thought could have stud bull potential.

Bob Weaber Kansas State University

All of the bulls in this year’s sale have had complete genetic testing and all results are published in this catalog. Every bull has the most up to date and accurate genomic enhanced EPDs available, all bulls have been identified for homozygosity for both color and polled and all bulls sell free of all known genetic defects. All of this is in addition to the standard performance testing, ultrasound for carcass traits, pre-sale breeding soundness exam, and the Trinity Farms stamp of approval that you have come to know and trust.

In 2016 we decided to test ALL of our sale bulls in an effort to provide our customers not only the most up to date, genomic enhanced EPDs available, but even more importantly to provide another layer of risk management with the associated accuracies. Although we don’t know exactly where all of this is headed, I can guarantee that genomics will be a part of everyone’s future. The dairy, pork and poultry industries have fully embraced its use and I believe that we will see exponential application occur in the beef industry over the next few years.

DNA information is similar to adding progeny records to an animal’s evaluation, allowing for more successful trait selection when selecting your bulls.

SONS OF Lock N Load

This bull was added to our line up in our effort to expand our baldy bull offering. As his semen has been extremely limited and difficult to come by, we have only had a limited number of sons to offer. The front end of these bulls are really massive and big middled in their design and offer a different type of genetics that we have infused into our SimAngusTM program. We have started the catalog with this incredibly stout and very deep set of bulls. Lots 1 and 2 are as good as they come and have a very distinctive look. We anticipate that this set of bulls will be among the most popular in our sale this year, don’t miss them, they are very special.

SONS OF S A V Resource 1441 The Resource bulls are fantastic in their design and shape. Good footed, sound structured cattle; they complement that with extra muscle and performance as well with many of his sons having as much weaning and yearling growth as any of the bulls in the offering. The female siblings to these bulls are stunning, and we anticipate great things from them as they enter the cowherd. If you are looking for beef bulls with a little more punch, be sure to check out this sire group.

Here is a fantastic opportunity – out of the dam to TFS Black Onyx, a past high seller that has been immensely successful wherever he is sampled. Tim Curran in California sold 30 sons in his sale last fall for an average north of $5000. An open heifer purchased in last year’s sale sold as a bred heifer last fall for $10,000. 2017 ASA EPDs on Bulls

In our constant attempt to enable you to make the best selection for your ranch, this year we have made the decision to have ALL of the bulls registered in the ASA data base. This will allow you to make direct EPD comparisons on all bulls regardless of breed (Angus or Simmental) and breed makeup. As such, all bulls are registered with ASA – in the case of the purebred Angus bulls, they are also dually registered with the AAA and their Angus EPDs can be found on line at the AAA website. We understand how confusing and overwhelming it can be to select bulls each year and are constantly looking for opportunities such as this to make that process a little more straightforward and less complicated. Please call if you have any questions about this change for 2017 and we will be glad to visit with you about it further. Trinity Farms Annual Bull Sale

This sire group is undoubtedly one of the stoutest and most impressive set of bulls again this year. The Upgrade bulls continue to rank at the top both in terms of performance and customer acceptance as many of the high selling bulls have come out of this sire group each year. These bulls will be tremendous for your straight black cows – they will add as much muscle and performance as any of the bulls we will offer this spring. Be sure to see all of the Black Ice and Oklahoma bulls as well. As direct descendants of Upgrade, they both offer something a little different while still sustaining an extremely high quality set of similarly bred bulls.

His young dam records 3@110 for BW, 3@102 for WW, and 3@141 for IMF to compliment his individual IMF scan of 6.1!! If you want to add some downstream value to your calves out of your heifers, be sure to look here!

Another Black Ice heifer bull prospect whose 3rd dam is still in production here at the ranch at 15 years old and produced 4513, the bull with as much influence in our SimAngus program as any.

SONS OF S A V Final Answer 0035

Final Answer has had an amazing impact and remains a pillar here at Trinity Farms! This bull will continue to have a huge influence in the years to come not only here but across the nation, especially with the thousands of fantastic females he has sired. The only heifer bull prospect sired by Substance, he is out of an own 4513 daughter that traces back to the 0381 Angus donor cow who has such a thorough influence in our SimAngus program.

Black Bear was one of the top selling bulls the same year that Scorpion sold and we sampled both of these bulls with great success in our AI program here at Trinity Farms. Black Bear is a direct 4513 son that has considerably more performance along with a great set of EPDs. His calves are very deep sided, soggy topped and have a super disposition. If you have some rougher cows that could use some moderation, more body mass and softer look; these bulls are terrific candidates.

Although all of our cattle are bred and designed to calve easily, we have applied strict criteria that heifer bull candidates must meet to be identified as such in this year’s offering. As nothing impacts your profit more than live calf percentage at weaning, we want to do our best to help you be successful when selecting bulls to breed to your virgin heifers. Our recommendations should protect you on the “bull side” of the equation for your calving ease. We love these 6EM3 cattle. With his 15.1”ribeye and 738 lb AWW, he can add as much early performance to a calf crop as many of the performance bulls. Like so many of the great heifer bulls being offered, he was raised on a 1st calf heifer and sports a very solid EPD profile as well.

What does homozygosity mean to me?

We have identified all of the bulls and the majority of the heifers for their homozygous status for both polled/horned and black color in addition to the parentage and LD testing on all of the bulls. Bulls that are homozygous polled will genetically dehorn your calves when bred to horned cows. The bulls that we have identified as homozygous black will sire all black calves just like a purebred Angus bull does. Although the genetics remain the same, some folks don’t want to insert the red gene in their cow herd, we understand and respect this, and have gone to the effort to identify all of the sale lots that we can for this reason.

Yearling Bull Development - Continued Care for Your Bulls

It is so much easier to do a job well when you have the right tools! I really must compliment Dad on helping this particular vision become reality. Our development lot has been very well thought out and designed to develop bulls to have lasting value for you! Oversized pens allow for plenty of exercise and free flowing water and covered feed storage help contribute to overall health and thriftiness of the cattle. Well-designed facilities contribute to quiet handling on horseback as well as on foot to contribute to ease of handling for you. In an effort to ensure longevity in the bulls, we truly “develop” the bulls rather than push them for maximum gain. Targeted weight gain is from 3.0 lbs/day to 3.5 lbs/day. All of the bulls are fed an identical, high roughage ration to fully develop rumen ability and express genetic potential. We rarely need to pull cattle for treatment and feel that you are able to view the bulls in a much more realistic condition than can be found at many other bull sales. We are committed to always providing the best possible product to you for the long haul, not just on sale day. It is our recommendation that you continue to develop these young bulls until turn out, and then restrict them to a defined breeding season at the end of which you gather them and continue to care for them separate from the rest of the bull battery. You are making an investment in the future and a little extra care until these bulls reach 2 years old will contribute greatly to their overall productiveness. We would like to suggest the following:

Feed:

Remember that these young bulls are still developing and maturing. Be sure to feed them well. Good quality hay, 5 pounds of grain along with about a pound of protein supplement from delivery until turn out should do quite well.

Breeding Season and Recommended Number of Cows:

Close observation to be sure your bull is actively servicing females is wise. We suggest limiting the breeding season to 45-60 days for these young bulls for the first year and recommend the following coverage rate based on average non-irrigated pastures.

Bull’s Age

Management:

12 to 15 months 15 to 18 months

Number of Females

Bull’s Age

10-12 12-18

18 to 24 months 24 months & older

Number of Females

18-25 25-35

A well fenced pasture or paddock is a must, especially after the breeding season. Shelter is recommended and bedding is wise when temperatures fall much below freezing. Plenty of clean water and minerals should be available free choice. Treat as needed for internal and external parasites and be sure to include your bulls in a complete vaccination program. An annual breeding soundness exam is a must to determine breeding ability prior to the breeding season – we recommend you do this well in advance of the bull sale season to allow for plenty of selection to replace bulls as needed.

Please join us in supporting our military men and women returning from combat in need of our help! We are so blessed in this country with our freedom – freedom that so many in most other parts of the world do not get to enjoy. Unfortunately this freedom comes at a price. Many have paid too high of a price and too many have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom and allow us the ability to continue to live and thrive in the greatest country on earth. We hope that we can continue to support this program and appreciate all of the additional support of so many of our loyal customers. As in years past, we will be donating 100% of the proceeds from the heifer selected to donate to this special project as well as the additional funds pledged on sale day by attendees. The past four years have been incredibly successful in this fundraising effort and with your generous support we have collectively raised over $60,000 for the worthy cause.
