1.1 Water Temple Project
Phase I: Vision and Government Adoption
B.Arch Thesis, 2014. Presented to the Prime Minister of India, 2016. Adopted under the National Mission for Clean Ganga (Water Resource Ministry of India) CSR initiative, 2017-19. Design originator and project lead.
TheGanga is the most revered river in India and among the most polluted. Once every twelve years, Varanasi and its sister cities host the Kumbh Mela, the largest human gathering on earth, where pilgrims arrive to bathe in water that is now unfit even for agriculture in many stretches. The Water Temple began as my undergraduate thesis: an attempt to use the river’s own sacred significance as the instrument of its repair.
The proposal reimagines the Varanasi ghats as a riverfront that lets people see, taste, and return Ganga water through ritual, making the larger water cycle legible as a civic and spiritual experience. The project was presented to the Prime Minister of India and adopted under the National Mission for Clean Ganga CSR initiative, with land parcels identified along the Varanasi riverbank for a potential pilot.

1.2 Water Temple Project
M.Arch Thesis, Arizona State University, 2019-2021 Developed with ARUP Group under their community engagement program and landscape architect Charles Anderson Design originator and project lead Phase II: Ecological Strategy with Experts
Fiveyears on, the project returned as my graduate thesis, deepening from a single riverfront into a full ecological strategy developed with landscape architect Charles Anderson around the geography of Varanasi, the land between the Varuna and Asi rivers.
The scheme treats architecture as a temporal system aligned with the monsoon: lightweight 3D-printed earthen suites dissolve and are reprinted each flood season, and water purification runs as a visible living-machine landscape. As design originator and project lead, I advanced the proposal in collaboration with ARUP Group, who backed it through their community engagement program, funding the feasibility study, physical model, and on-site prototype.
The project remains a working argument that a polluted sacred river can be repaired through the same rituals that draw people to it.

Concept and Design
Temples in India are built in the image of man as a cosmic being, one with the universe. The Water Temple draws on this sacred relationship with the Ganga to frame the causes of pollution as everyday actions, and its remedies as daily and seasonal rituals.
The plan sits on the land between the Varuna and Asi rivers, the geography from which Varanasi takes its name. Two arcs mirror the rivers, and a spiral pilgrim path draws visitors inward to the central dome where ritual, filtration, and gathering converge.
Geometry, water, and program are organized around the seven chakras (energy centers) of the body, aligning architectural experience with the cosmology that brings pilgrims to the river.

Flow of water through the site, lightening in tone as it is progressively cleaned.

Architectural experience organized around the body’s energy centers.

Dissolving Earthship 1
The project responds to cyclical flooding through a reversible construction strategy. Lightweight, modular earthen structures are designed to perform during dry conditions and dissolve during monsoon periods, allowing the site to reset without residual impact.
Architecture is conceived as a temporal system aligned with hydrological cycles rather than a permanent imposition on the landscape.

Structure & skin design

Living Landscape 2
Water purification is embedded within the architectural experience as a visible, performative system. River water is filtered through sequential ecological processes including sedimentation, planting, and time-based flow.
The system operates simultaneously as infrastructure and landscape, making environmental processes legible while maintaining ecological balance.

The Water Temple is conceived as a lightweight, low-impact structural system responsive to the seasonal sensitivity of the riverbank. A steel framework is configured as a porous environmental system, integrating filtration, airflow, and daylight while organizing a central gathering space oriented toward the river.
Layered materials and passive strategies modulate light, temperature, and water movement, allowing the structure to perform as both enclosure and environmental mediator.
Geometry emerges from structural and environmental performance, informed by sacred geometry, balancing cultural reference with material restraint..

2. Hojas & Rainbow
Ultra-luxury residences, Costa
Inspired by Hojas, meaning “falling leaves,” this ninebedroom house cascades down a hill, its leaf-shaped roofs with knife-edge details opening views in all directions.
Working closely with FAIA Gold Medalist Antoine Predock, I translated his vision of “body in motion” into spatial sequences and built form. I developed parametric models in Rhino and Grasshopper, advanced SD and DD drawings, and produced renderings and walkthroughs in Lumion. I supported BIM coordination in meetings with consultants and local architects, and contributed to material selection and interior design alongside the lead architect.

04. Multi-family housing
A climate-responsive multi-family housing project
Starq Design | 2025 | Multifamily Housing | Fontana, CA Architectural Designer
This multi-family housing project in Fontana, California adopts a climate-responsive approach informed by Southern California energy performance requirements, balancing density and neighborhood scale within a growing Inland Empire context. The design prioritizes clear massing, passive shading strategies, and shared outdoor spaces to support occupant comfort while moderating solar heat gain.
Stepped volumes, recessed balconies, and articulated façades provide effective self-shading and daylight control, supporting envelope performance consistent with California Title 24 energy efficiency goals. The overall approach emphasizes durability, constructability, and long-term performance appropriate to the regional climate.

5. Presence Farm house
Brijwasan (New Delhi), 2015-16
Kamath Design Studio
Jr Architect position
Located on the outskirts of Delhi, surrounded by farmland and the distant Aravalli Hills, the house emerges quietly from its setting. Its presence unfolds gradually as one moves through the organic farm.
Our client, a trustee of Auroville, the visionary township often called the “City of the Future,” drew inspiration from its Master Plan. Rooted in the form of a spiral galaxy, the design symbolizes dynamic movement, interconnectedness, and a balance between urban and natural environments.
All materials were sourced within 200 km of the site. Working under the project manager, I contributed to design development, interior drawings, detailed construction documents, budgeting, client presentation, and site visit documentation.

Reimagining concepts of Paolo Soleri (Architecture + Ecology)
Arizona State University, M.Arch Studio Student work, 2019-2020

Aeroponic plants absorb sunlight while evaporating water through their leaves, lowering ambient temperature. Inflatable ETFE controls solar gain, creating a stable microclimate. A water mist system runs through the ceiling and dendrophile columns, supplying plants that grow downward from above, out of human reach but clearly visible, producing a biophilic environment for learning.

Water from air, used for community
Third Semester, 2020
Site: Tempe, AZ
Independent Studio project
Instructor: Ed Soltero
Inspired by a fire truck’s water-carrying role, I designed a fire station with a cloudlike, free-flowing copper skin that creates a comfortable microclimate for firefighters.
Located in ASU’s future Novus Innovation Corridor, the site receives abundant sunlight, making solar strategies a key design component.

SD to CD, brand coordination, CA support
Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas
Architectural Designer - Type Six Design & Development, 2023-24
This160-room dual-brand hotel integrates Hilton Hampton Inn and Hilton Home2 Suites under a single roof, utilizing Type IIA construction. The design features a straightforward L-shaped layout, efficiently separating the two brands: Hampton Inn, catering to business and leisure travelers, occupies one wing, while Home2 Suites, designed for long-term guests seeking a residential ambiance, occupies the other. These distinct zones converge at a central circulation hub. The first level houses backof-house operations and thoughtfully designed shared spaces, fostering seamless functionality and interaction between the two brands.
On multiple projects of similar scale, I worked under the project manager to deliver SD, DD, IFP (Issued for Permit), and CD phases while securing brand approval. I conducted site surveys, accompanied PM for construction administration, participated in client presentations, created visualizations, and coordinated with consultants.

Dear Mr. Modi,
Shri Narendra Modi, Hon'ble Prime Minister of India
recently hired Siddhartha Verma, a young architect from India who completed his masters in architecture from Arizona State University. In 2016 Siddhartha personally presented his proposal for a Water Temple in Varanasi to you.
Dear Mr. Modi,
People all over the world are inspired by your vision to use yoga to create harmony with nature and adopt a sustainable lifestyle. I am impressed with Siddhartha's second thesis on the same subject: combining science with yogic knowledge to clean and revive the holy Ganga. The modern temple he is proposing has the potential to become a beacon of spirituality helping humans discover a sense of oneness with the planet by engaging with water.
