NOTES FROM A DREAMER THE ART OF UNKOWING

I love this time of year for many reasons—the slower pace, the quiet dark, and the time with my family always stirs something within me. It's when my alchemist’s spirit feels most alive, eager to lean into the in-between moments that become fertile ground for ideas to bloom.

This is the time I use to set the tone for what comes next. Not with rigid goals, but with expansive intention and the desire to begin the slow, satisfying process of turning ideas into form.

It’s when I feel most connected to the idea that artistry, at its core, is about transformation—of materials, of stories, of self.

DIAMOND:

THE UNBROKEN FLAME Diamond is the oldest Element most of us will ever touch. born billions of years ago under immense pressure and heat. Across civilizations, it has been revered for brilliance, strength, and transcendence: lightning in India, tears of gods in Greece, crowns and armor in Europe.

Beyond myth, its structure. pure carbon in perfect symmetry, makes it the hardest natural material, able to cut through almost anything, even illusion. Its fire is precise, refracting light with quiet intensity that deepens on reflection.

Arun values diamonds not for status, but for their contradictions: permanence and reinvention. In his hands, they float, fracture, and defy gravity. Set in titanium and paired with unexpected materials, they become wholly modern while carrying eternity’s weight. For him, diamond is less a symbol of luxury than a medium of transformation.

ORIGAMI KINTSUGI BANGLE FRACTURE BECOMES FORM

The Origami Kintsugi Bangle draws on the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi, the art of repairing what is broken with reverence and care. Faceted like a relic of modernity, its matte gold surface is interrupted by a jagged seam of white diamonds, recalling the tradition of filling cracks with gold to honor imperfection as beauty. The pavé lines flow unpredictably, like the ruptures and recoveries that shape every life.

The bangle reimagines that symbolism through contemporary design, architectural in silhouette yet philosophical in spirit.

It does not merely adorn; it acknowledges, restores, and transforms. A reminder that the hidden lines we once sought to conceal can become the very thing that makes us whole.

Across cultures, fracture has long symbolized both loss and renewal. In Japanese tea vessels, in Byzantine mosaics, in the myths of rebirth that span civilizations, the broken made whole again has stood as proof of resilience and transcendence.

PARAIBA TOURMALINE THE LIGHT WITHIN STONE

Discovered in 2000 in Mozambique’s Tete Province, Paraiba tourmaline is known for its vivid blue-green tones created by copper deposits within the stone. Its hues recall tropical waters yet carry a distinct intensity that sets them apart.

Mining the gemstone is challenging, as the dry, rugged terrain requires persistence to uncover even small deposits. As supply diminishes, each stone becomes a rare marker of nature’s endurance.

For Arun, Paraiba tourmaline is more than a material. It represents resilience and discovery. The stone’s journey from harsh landscapes to luminous brilliance reflects a belief in transformation.

ThE Paraiba Gold & Diamond Arches BANGLE centers on a striking Mozambique Paraiba, prized for its vivid blue-green glow that instantly commands attention. Its luminous color recalls the depth of tropical waters, offering a serene yet powerful focal point.

Encircling the stone is a halo of reverse-set diamonds, arranged in Arunashi’s signature style. This distinctive setting allows light to catch the diamonds from unexpected angles, amplifying their sparkle and creating a dynamic frame of brilliance around the Paraiba.

Rooted in the poetry of water and light, the Paraiba Ring unfolds as a meditation on motion held in balance. At its center rests a vivid Paraiba from Brazil’s storied Batalha mine, glowing with an electric blue green intensity that feels alive and serene, like sunlight refracted through moving water.

The design expands outward with intention, translating fluid movement into quiet geometry. A flexible shank introduces subtle motion, allowing the ring to respond organically to the wearer, reinforcing a dialogue between structure and flow.

Hexagon cut diamonds form a luminous halo around the center stone. Their repeating geometry echoes patterns found in crystals and natural systems, offering rhythm and order. Interspersed with kite cuts, the hexagons create a rippling cadence that mirrors water’s surface while anchoring the composition.

Formed in the rugged heights of Argentina’s Capillitas mine and a handful of other rare deposits, the stone carries the spirit of its origins. Its banded and stalactitic formations reveal nature’s artistry, layers that echo both beauty and complexity. Scarcity makes it a collector’s treasure, while its warmth and depth give it an emotional resonance few stones can match.

Born in the heart of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, Rhodochrosite from the Sweet Home Mine carries a legacy as rare as it is beautiful. Its vivid red crystals glow with an intensity that feels both earthly and ethereal, a radiance that has made this locality one of the most celebrated sources of the gem. Each specimen holds not only striking visual allure but also the weight of its origin, a place that has defined the standard for Rhodochrosite worldwide.

From this mine came the legendary “Alma King,” regarded as the finest Rhodochrosite specimen ever discovered, now housed in the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Its presence solidified Sweet Home’s reputation as the birthplace of treasures that blur the line between geology and art.

In these crystals, one encounters more than mineral perfection. They embody the drama of mountains forged in deep time, the resilience of a mine that yielded beauty against harsh terrain, and the poetry of color captured in stone. PRINCESS DIAMOND There is something unmistakably confident about the princess cut. Its square silhouette feels decisive and clear, a shape that holds its ground while catching light in constant motion. CONTEMPLATIONS OF THE MONTH GETTING BACK INTO THE SWING OF THINGS

Settling back into the ArunAshi atelier today after a wonderful few weeks with my family, and am finding myself returning to the same themes that inspired the Enigma collection, which I created A few years ago.

If this time of year could take shape, I think it would be an archway. Because, in many ways, January is the same kind of liminal space. A time when possibilities swirl all around, but a new reality has yet to coalesce.

There’s something thrilling about that sense of anticpation.

For me, there’s an undeniable pleasure in the sense that you’ve reached a threshold where something wild and wonderful waits on the other side.
