Rochester Fringe Fest
The Rochester Fringe Festival is a festival that has 600+ performances that take place from September 9th to September 20th. Within these 12 days, performances take place all around the greater Rochester area, including The Harley School. A few of these types of performances include comedy, music, theater, dance, spoken word, visual arts, and film, where 5,000 people of all ages perform. Fringe Festivals started in Edinburgh, Scotland, but Rochester has taken Fringe Festivals to a whole new level. With
being the largest festival in New York, and one of the largest in the nation, the festival attracts a lot of visitors into town, almost 885,000.
A few of the interesting events that the Rochester Fringe Festival hosts is a kids day, which takes place on the last official day of the festival, September 20th. Kids day has activities such as pumpkin painting, fringe street beat, kids chalk art, and disco kids. Another interesting event is “Le Cirque des Sensation” which takes place at Aerial Arts of Rochester. Le

Cirque des Sensation is an aerial arts event, where a story is told through movement on silks, hammocks, hoop, trapeze and more. A similar experience takes place at Roc City Circus. The Rochester Fringe Festival is one like no other, and is a truly unique and amazing experience for all to enjoy.
20 Best Albums of all time
Music surrounds us. It’s in the car. It’s in your earbuds when you’re trying to tune it out and finish your homework. It’s thumping through the speakers at almost every big event in life. It can feel like noise filling up dead space sometimes, but sometimes it means so much more. There is a specific song that brings you back to a memory you never realized you had, like a night out with friends you enjoy in the summer, or even a tough time you struggled through and were able to overcome. Music captures moments more than photographs sometimes because you don’t just hear the memory, you feel it.
The second reason music is so important is that it sings the things that we don’t always have the words for. If you are angry, pumped up, nervous, or broken-hearted, there is a song that always manages to get it. It’s like the artist is singing directly to you, that they’ve gone through the very same thing. That kind of identification is powerful. Music gives us ways to cope with our emotions, even those that are hard to express.
But music doesn’t just connect us with ourselves; it connects us with other human beings too. Even if two people have completely different tastes, they can still share something based on how much they care about a song or an album. Think about concerts—tens or hundreds of thousands of strangers who might not even know one another’s names all coming together to sing the same words and get the same vibe. Music breaks down barriers and creates
community in a way that very little else can. On a bigger level, music often becomes part of culture itself. Certain albums define whole generations, shaping the way people dress, talk, and even see the world. They create bonding experiences that live far beyond just the songs themselves. Music is also a part of everyday life, little things that make us who we are. It’s the pre-game mix tape that gets the athletes hyped. It’s the song that your parents always blast in the car. It’s the music to all-nighters spent studying or the score to hanging out with friends all day. The little things matter, and the songs in question become part of your personal history. That’s why counting down the greatest albums feels so meaningful—it’s not just about the music itself, but about which records have stood the test of time and continue to bring people together. Here are my pics for the top 20 albums of all time:
1. Michael Jackson – Thriller
2. The Beatles – Abbey Road
3. Prince – Purple Rain
4. Michael Jackson – Bad
5. Bob Dylan – Highway 61 Revisited
6. Pink Floyd – The Dark Side of the Moon
7. Kanye West – Graduation
8. Drake – Take Care
9. Elton John – Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
10. John Lennon – Imagine
11. Adele – 21
12. Nirvana – Nevermind
13. Grateful Dead – American Beauty
14. Fleetwood Mac – Rumours
15. Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On
16. The Rolling Stones – Exile on Main St.
17. Travis Scott – Astroworld
18. Billy Joel – The Stranger
19. U2 – The Joshua Tree
20. Taylor Swift – 1989
In the bigger picture, music is so much more than background noise. It’s a sanctuary when life becomes too much, it’s a memory from the past, and it’s a way of relating to other people in the moment. It’s hard to think of anything else that can do all those things at once. A single song has the ability to make you cry, laugh, or feel understood like nothing else can. Music evolves with us and stays with us, no matter how much we mature.
That is what makes music so important—it’s not just something to hear, it’s something to feel and live. It’s in the quiet when we are by ourselves and the sounds when we are surrounded by others. It’s in the clubs, the breakup songs, the championship games, and the ordinary everyday commutes. Music doesn’t just underscore life; it’s part of life. And for that, music will never become outdated. These twenty albums are my way of showing just how powerful music can be—not only as sound, but as culture, memory, and the bond that ties people together.

CLASSES AS A SENIOR
I am a senior this year, which means I have taken almost every class offered in upper school at Allendale Columbia, from basic English to Darkroom Photography. I will be talking about my favorite classes and how they have led me to what I want to do in college and piqued my interests. Freshman year, I took pretty basic courses, except for Darkroom Photography and Digital Photography. These classes were definitely hard work, with learning how to develop film without exposing it to light and learning my way with Photoshop and cameras. I didn’t take any photography classes after that, but I did enjoy it, and I would retake Digital Photography if I could. Sophomore year, I don’t remember any of the fun classes I took, meaning that none of them were memorable enough to mention. Junior year is when I found what I was interested in, I took Digital
Media Production, which included writing articles for the newspaper and creating social media posts. This class has really made an impact on me because now as a senior, I am a yearbook and social media advisor, which takes responsibility and leadership. I also took Drawing and Printmaking, where I found myself being relaxed and letting out stress by doing artwork. This year, I have continued to enroll in digital media; however, I am also taking a science elective. The elective is called Computational Physics; although it may seem difficult, this class focuses on involving physics in coding. As I am not the best at using computers, I hope this class will make me more comfortable using technology, as well as understanding how physics can be applied to technology. I hope you take some electives that impact your future like mine did.
TIPS FOR BACK TO SCHOOL
CALLA SCHWARTZ
As we begin the new school year, it’s important to remember that your mental health is just as important as your schoolwork. While it’s essential to study and get your classwork in, it’s also essential to take care of yourself. To prevent low motivation, here are some tips that will help you settle into the new school year while also looking after yourself.
DON’T GO TO BED TOO EARLY
Even though getting 8+ hours of sleep is necessary, make sure not to go to bed until your usual bedtime. This is important because your circadian rhythm could be thrown off, and your insomnia can be increased. By going to bed earlier, your body will wake up earlier which can result in drowsiness and fatigue. Going to bed too early can also result in spending more time awake than asleep, which can worsen insomnia. Instead, try going to bed at your regular time or when you feel tired enough to fall asleep.
TALK TO YOUR TEACHERS
If you are starting to feel low motivation and unable to do any work, let your teachers know. By communicating with your teachers, you can
discuss ways that they can help you, such as extra help outside of class. You can also tell your school counselor that you’re struggling with motivation, and they can help you find solutions.
USE POSITIVE SELF TALK
By staying positive, you can increase your self esteem and confidence. If you tell yourself, “I can’t do this” or, “my work is too difficult,” you will develop a fixed mindset, and start to struggle in class due to not believing in yourself. By telling yourself things like, “I might struggle with my work, but I can do it,” you can strengthen your academic performance.
EAT A BALANCED BREAKFAST
Eating breakfast daily can increase your focus and alertness, as well as give you strength for

the rest of the morning. Even though it takes some time to prepare and eat your breakfast before school, it is important not to skip it because breakfast provides the brain with the nutrients it needs to function properly, so you can concentrate and learn better in class. It is also important not to eat too much sugar in the morning, such as donuts or sugary cereal. Foods like those may taste better, but your blood sugar can increase and decrease quickly, which makes fatigue worse. Instead, you should eat something healthy, such as a smoothie or toast.
CONNECT WITH OTHER STUDENTS
If you have trouble making friends or talking to your peers, make sure to contribute in class and join activities. By joining clubs, sports teams, or other extracurriculars, you will be able to connect with other students who share similar interests with you, and you will be able to more easily make friends, which can make you more excited to come to school.
These tips have helped me get back into the learning and school mindset, and I hope they can help you as well.

LIVING WITH A HOST FAMILY
Everyone has a different experience living with a host family, because families vary a lot. You could live with a big family or with just one person. I have a big family. I have a mom, a dad, two little sisters, a little brother, and two really cute dogs.
My host mom is from Turkey so I have been learning a lot about her culture. Life is a little crazy in that house because everyone has different activities, at different times, but it is really fun because we always try to do fun things together, and I still can have my time alone in my room whenever I want.
We've already gone apple picking and to a trampoline park. We've gone shopping at the mall and eaten at local restaurants, and we go to the movies almost every weekend. I also love spending time with the kids.
I take the bus to school everyday, and after school I play tennis, and my host dad always picks me up from games and practices. In the mornings me and the kids have breakfast together. When I get home we all have dinner together, and then we spend time together either playing or just watching a movie.
My room is in the basement so I have a lot of space if I want to have someone over. I also have my own bathroom and I have a quiet space when I need to do homework or study.
I feel lucky to have an awesome host family like mine. That is my experience in my host family.
SARA LUIS CORTES
LIVING IN THE INTERNATIONAL HOUSE
I’m living in the International House and at the moment it’s going well and it’s so fun. There are 8 students in the house and a family that consists of two parents and two little girls. We do fun activities together on weekends, but also we have our space. That means that if you don’t want to go to any activity you can say it and you stay home.
During the week, for breakfast, they make scrambled and hard-boiled eggs but you can also make your own breakfast. We have lunch at school, and for dinner Monday and Wednesday, Katie cooks and the other days of the week, the school provides us meals. On the weekends, we go to Wegmans or to some restaurant and we buy a meal. We try to eat all together but if someone is late because of a match or anything else, they have to pick the dinner from the kitchen.
There are 4 rooms in the house, so the two girls that were there last year have a room for themselves and then the other people have a roommate. There are two bathrooms and all boys have one and the girls have the other one.
Living in the international house is like having a super big family and it’s so fun being there all together.

BLUE White Day
Blue White Day is a long Allendale Columbia tradition that started in 1963. Some schools have a field or May Day, but we have Blue White Day. Blue White Day connects the whole school from Kindergarten to Seniors. Each grade connects with either an upper schooler or a lower schooler and participates in field games

with their buddy. My favorites are the threelegged race, and capture the flag. As an upper schooler, I love getting a buddy because they are so excited to be with an older kid and their friends for the day. The bonds that are created on Blue White Day last the whole year.
The school is separated into 2 teams, blue and white, the Allendale Columbia colors, creating a long rivalry between friends and classmates that continues throughout the year, and comes back in September.
Blue White Day started as a Columbia School tradition and was referred to as a “field day.” The girls would attach blue or white pins to their uniforms. The girls played a game that consisted of relays, sack races, and crab soccer. The Allendale School also had a field day, but they separated into two teams called Mohawk and Apache. Because boys were considered more athletic at the time compared to girls, they competed playing real sports. The boys played games like football, basketball, soccer, and baseball. Whichever team won received a trophy.
We continue Blue White Day every year at Allendale Columbia, the day before homecoming to get the students excited and in the mood for school spirit.

Interview with HAC VArsity Player Liam Mitchell
Q: How did you first get into soccer?
Liam: “My friend from elementary school loved to play. We would always play at recess and eventually we wanted to play so much that we joined a club team.”
Q: What does being on the varsity team mean to you?
Liam: It feels like I have more responsibility to represent the school and the top end of the program. It lets me play in a more competitive scene and playing in sectionals is always great.
Q: What part of your game are you most confident in right now?
Liam: Definitely slide tackling. I’ve always enjoyed tripping people up, and I don’t miss.
Q: What’s the most challenging team you’ve played, and what made it tough?
Liam: Naples. They always have a ton of players who work well together, a good touch, and they just know how to play the game tactically really well. They have always been good at breaking down other teams.
Q: How do you recover from a bad game or play mentally?
Liam: Put it behind you, move on to the next. A mistake isn’t going to kill you.
Q: Any pre-match routines or superstitions?
Liam: Just listen to music, it calms me down.
Q: Do you plan to play in college?
Liam: I plan on playing either club or intermurals. I’m not going to give it up, but I also won’t play for the college.
Q: Who’s someone that’s really pushed you to get better?
Liam: Leo definitely does. We constantly compete to see who can be the best defender.
Q: What’s one game you’ll never forget?
Liam: Against Bloomfield, my sophomore year, I actually wrote my college essay about that. It was my first game on varsity that I really felt like I played well. At the end of the game, the
assistant coach told me that it was my best game I’d played all year. It was the first time I felt that I really belonged in varsity.
Q: What do you think makes a good teammate?
Liam: Someone who cares, someone who’s loud, energetic, but also someone who can understand that people make mistakes and is there to support them, pick them back up.

Q: If you weren’t playing soccer, what sport would you do?
Liam: Basketball, that’s another sport that I’ve played for ten years. That’s another sport that I love to play.
Q: What advice would you give to a younger player who wants to get better?
Liam: Don’t be afraid, even though they might be bigger than you. Definitely put in some work, don’t slack off all summer. Run a lot, Varsity especially requires a lot of stamina. Most of all, be confident. An angry mindset ruins your game.
MOTIVATION
MARC VOLOSHIN
Although it is currently September, and fall sports have already begun, it is never too late to make a positive change to your game and how you prepare for competition. Most athletes think that they have missed their window to improve or that they are falling behind, and end up giving up. However, the mindset to have is that every day is an opportunity to improve for yourself and your team. Motivation and discipline don’t care about your past, but the positive changes and consistent actions you take when you push yourself beyond mediocrity, or this common notion in society of being average. It doesn’t matter where you are in your season; it’s never too late to make that positive change for yourself and your team.
The best way to start improving in your sport is to remember why you started playing and what your goals are.
It could be loving the competition, being part of a team, or just enjoying pushing your limits. Thinking about these reasons can help you get excited and use every practice and game to get better. Another effective way to push yourself is by setting small goals for every day in order to hold yourself accountable and build selfconfidence through consistency.
The last piece of advice often goes unnoticed but is essential to self-improvement as well as making your teammates better. Attitude is everything, and your teammates will notice your effort and positivity, which will only bring the team together and motivate everyone collectively.

LEE CORSO
MACKENZIE OPIRA
Lee Corso is a 90 year old former coach and college football analyst. For those who don’t know, College Game Day is a pregame show by ESPN that comes on Saturdays during the college football seasons that features analysis, discussion, fan contests, and guest pickers to make picks on who will win games.
Corso was on College Game Day from its very beginning in 1987 for 40 whole years, however after suffering a stroke in 2009 his role was slightly minimized.

He was best known for making headgear picks each week putting on a mascot head of the team he thought would win the upcoming game, his catchphrase
“not so fast, my friend”
used when disagreeing with other commentators, and his passion for the sport. Lee appeared on his final college game day broadcast on August 30th, 2025, the first week into the college football season. With his 431st and final headgear pick Lee Corso chose the Ohio State Buckeyes which also happened to be the pick he made for his very first headgear pick.
Lee was correct in choosing the Buckeyes along with being correct in all six of his picks that day. The six picks included the FSU upset against Alabama, Tennessee over Syracuse, Miami over Notre Dame, LSU over Clemson, Ohio State over Clemson, and South Carolina over Virginia Tech. Having an Impressive end to an impressive career Lee Corso will be dearly missed.
NFL ROUND UP
LIAM MITCHELL
It’s been 209 days, but the NFL is finally back. Week 1 is always the worst week to watch, as the majority of the games defensive battles, while the offenses shake off the rust. However, this year, there were still a multitude of intriguing storylines and matchups to kick off the 2025 season. The Lions faced off against the Packers, whom many were intrigued to watch following their trade for All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons. Many believed this to be one of the games of the week, given that the Lions were the top offense from a year ago; however, this offseason, they lost both their coordinators and their long-time center, Frank Ragnow. Their biggest loss had to be their Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson, who left for a head coaching opportunity in Chicago. Johnson had been the OC for 3 years in Detroit and had played a large role in the quick turnaround of the franchise. The outcome of this game surprised many, as the Packers beat the Lions 27-13. The Packers defense shut down the Lions offense, especially their run game, limiting Detroit to only 46 yards on 22 carries. This led to many labelling them as the biggest threat to the reigning champs, the Philadelphia Eagles, to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LX.

only signed a couple of days before the game, lined up to take the kick and hit a game-winning yard field goal to complete the epic comeback.
Week 2 had no shortage of great games, the most surprising of which was the Giants vs the Cowboys. Both were coming off losses, with the Cowboys being heavy favorites; however, this game did not play out this way. This game was lopsided early, with the Dallas offense struggling in the 1st half, but the 2nd half proved to be much better. The Cowboys were up 4 with around 30 seconds to go, and Russel Wilson heaved a ball 48 yards down the field into the endzone to Malik Nabers, who caught it to give the Giants a 3-point lead with 25 seconds to go. For any other team, almost all hope would be lost, but the Cowboys have a secret weapon, former soccer player, kicker Brandon Aubrey. The Cowboys began their drive at around their own 30-yard line. After a few chunk plays, the Cowboys were set up for a 64-yard attempt to tie the game, and Aubrey hit the kick to send the game to overtime, where the Cowboys won the game on yet another field goal by Brandon Aubrey.
Now, switching to the game of the week, a rematch from the divisional round a year ago, the Bills vs the Ravens. The last time these teams played, it came down to a 2-point conversion at the end of the 4th quarter for the Ravens to tie it, and Mark Andrews, the Ravens’ tight end, dropped it in the end zone, and the Bills moved on. The Ravens came into week 1 seeking revenge, and both teams came out on fire, but with 4:05 left on the clock, the Ravens were up 40-25, and nobody was expecting the Bills to come back. However, with a little over 3 minutes to go and the Ravens up 40-32, Lamar Jackson handed the ball off to Derrick Henry, who fumbled, and the Bills recovered. Then, as time expired, 41-year-old Matt Prater, who had
Another highly anticipated matchup was the Super Bowl rematch between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs were heavily depleted offensively, missing their star wideout Rashee Rice, who is serving his 6-game suspension, and Xavier Worthy, who was also out due to a shoulder injury sustained after running into Travis Kelce in week 1. After watching what happened in the Super Bowl, sportsbooks were not expecting this game to be close. However, both defenses played very well, keeping the game close and low-scoring, with the Eagles winning 20-17. With this result, the Chiefs have begun the season 0-2 for the first time since 2014. However, following the game, social media went crazy after the Eagles’ repeated use of the Tush Push play, which the majority of the NFL fanbase wants banned.

Louis Vuitton is the most iconic designer house of all time. The French luxury house founded in 1854 by trunk-maker Louis Vuitton, is best known for its unique clothing pieces, handbags, and shoes. LV is truly a jack of all trades, offering a variety unmatched by any other brand. They are a subsidiary of the world’s largest fashion conglomerate, LVHM, which owns numerous other fashion brands, including Celine, Christian Dior, Loewe, Fendi, and many more.
Fashion: the most powerful creative expression in the world.
Many people often overlook fashion as something “unnecessary” and “a waste of time”. But in my opinion, fashion is far more than putting on a few pieces of clothing-it is a strong form of self-expression that can tell a story. The way people dress can communicate personality, values, and identity. Fashion helps people feel confident in themselves: “If you look good, you feel good”. And even beyond just an individual, fashion drives industries, creates thousands of jobs, and inspires creativity to do something different from others. Fashion gives you a way to be unique in your true self, and people will appreciate you for it. I love fashion and expressing my personality through my clothes, so here are a couple of my favorite brands.

Talking about fashion and streetwear, and not mentioning Supreme is like talking about basketball and not mentioning Michael Jordan. If you ask anyone who likes streetwear what the most iconic streetwear brand is, 9 times out of 10, they will say Supreme. Supreme is a streetwear brand founded in NYC by James Jebbia in 1994. The brand is rooted in hip-hop, pop culture, and skateboarding. Their iconic designs took the world by storm, particularly in 2016 when the hype was like none other. Although they have fallen off in popularity since then, Supreme has been making a steady revival, particularly in 2025, when their new fall/winter collection was released.
