CASEY ROUSH: ROOSTER How do you connect with your character’s personality, and how are you different from them? Let’s say I have style, but I’m not evil. What is your favorite scene to perform? Probably the first scene that I’m in. I think I have a good introduction to my character. What are you excited for the audience to see? I can’t choose one specific thing; I think they should just be excited for the whole show. Who inspires you as a performer? There’s a lot of people, but one in particular - Rowan Bissonette - who keeps pushing me. And Ms. Meldrum, of course. LUCIA WARFE: MRS. PUGH, STAR TO BE, SOPHIE, CONNIE BOYLAN What are you most excited about for the performance? I’m excited because Annie’s one of my favorite musicals and I’m really happy and excited to perform it. What are you excited for the audience to see? I’m excited for them to see all the work we’ve been doing and the dances. What inspires you as a performer? I’m inspired a lot by movies I watch and how lots of different actors and actresses can play many different kinds of characters. Anything else you would like to share? Everyone should come see the show because it’s going to be really great. GRACIE DIPALMA: ANNIE What is your favorite scene to perform? I like performing “Tomorrow” because I get to hang out with Birdie, the dog. What are you most excited
about for the performance? I am most excited about being on stage again and hanging out with all of my cast members. What are you excited for the audience to see? I’m excited for them to see “NYC”, our big dance number. Who inspires you as a performer? My mom. My mom did theatre in high school. She’s really good at singing and she’s very hardworking, and it inspires me to work hard. EVIE JACKSON: MISS HANNIGAN How do you connect with your character’s personality, and how are you different from them? I think I’m very different from Miss Hannigan because she is really horrible and mean and loud. I’m kind of the opposite of that-I’m very quiet and conflict avoidant. But, I connect into that by channeling and thinking about all the people in my life that I can get really mad about. Specifically, my younger sibling. I like to envision that I’m yelling at her, and that really helps me get into character. What are you most excited about for the performance? I’m excited to just be on stage. I love the adrenaline and the buzz of being backstage, putting on costumes, and then being under the lights. Just performing in any capacity. What are you excited for the audience to see? I’m excited for them to see all of the dancing. I think Mrs. Snyder’s worked really hard on the choreography and I’ve done some of it too, and it all is looking really good. Anything else you would like to share? Good luck to everyone who’s in the cast. I think that it’s gonna be a really great musical and everyone is really well suited to what they’re doing.

Sopa de Galets is a famous Christmas dish in Catalonia that is made with a lot of love to share with the family. Its main feature is the “galets”, a large snail-shaped pasta that is slowly cooked in a homemade broth, usually made with meat, chicken and vegetables. The galets are stuffed with meat balls, making the soup comforting for the cold winter nights. The dish is usually served as the first course on Christmas Eve bringing all family and friends together around the table. Sopa de Galets is not just famous because of its flavor it’s also famous because it takes a lot of time and care to prepare, from making the homemade broth to stuffing the galets and it makes every family recipe unique. It is passed down from generation to generation. Although other places in Spain serve some soup dishes on Christmas, this soup is exclusive to Catalonia, because of the use of the galets and the specific way they are prepared. At the time, many Catalan restaurants added the dish to their menus to keep the tradition alive and show that with simple things we can do a big and good thing. So all this shows us that Sopa de Galets is not just a dish, it’s a celebration of tradition, family, and Catalan culture.

BRAZIL: Black conciousness day TORI ADAM FEIX
On November 20th in Brazil we celebrate the “Black Consciousness Day”, a national holiday. This day is dedicated to celebrating the resistance of the Afro-Brazilian people, reflecting on the difficulties and struggle against racism, symbolized by Zumbi dos Palmares. Zumbi was one of the first ones to fight against enslavement of Africans by Portuguese people in colonial Brazil for freedom. She was also a Brazilian quilombola leader, “Quilombo dos Palmares” was a community formed by escaped enslaved people and others seeking freedom from Portuguese colonial rule in the northern region of Brazil. This day was proposed by activists in the 1970s as a counterpoint to the May 13 abolition date, which centered on the actions of a white princess, rather than the agency of black people in their own liberation struggle. The date only became a national public holiday across Brazil by law in December of 2023. Brazilians commemorate this date with a mixture of vibrant cultural festivities, and educational initiatives. We have events like, spirited marches, capoeira demonstrations, music, and dance performances that highlight black pride, alongside serious seminars dedicated to discussing and fighting structural racism. However, this day specifically honors Zumbi dos Palmares whose life serves as a powerful symbol of freedom and resilience in the fight for racial justice. Black Consciousness Day transcends the tribute to Zumbi, serving as a powerful moment of reflection and mobilization in Brazilian society. The date is an annual call for the recognition and dismantling of the structural racism that persists in the country, and an active commitment to promoting social, educational, and economic equity. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the resilience of the Black people translates into full justice and equal opportunities for future generations.

This year I had the chance to do something really special thanks to the exchange program between Spain and AC School. I’m studying here for the whole school year, so having a group of students from Spain, my own culture, was really cool and helpful. Some AC students spent two weeks living with them, doing activities together and showing them around a country that was completely new for many of them. It was nice to have people from home here while also seeing them experience my new life in the U.S. From the first day, it was clear they were super excited. They did lots of activities organized by the school and the host families. They went on city tours, visited places from the town, tried typical American food, and also shared Spanish traditions. It was really interesting to see how they noticed the differences between life here and in Spain, and how fast they started to adapt. One of the best things about the program was that they got to practice English a lot. Being in a place where people speak English every day helped them get better at understanding and speaking the language. Talking to people, going out, and spending time with the students were all good ways to learn and practice the language and feel more confident. Some of them even said they felt much more comfortable speaking English after just a few days. Those two weeks weren’t just useful for learning English, they were also great personally. Many of them had never been so far from home, and seeing how life is here helped them open their minds, understand different customs, and appreciate their own culture more. For me, it was fun to see how they got used to everything and how much they enjoyed it. This exchange was an amazing experience, full of learning, making friends, and memories we’ll all remember forever. It really showed me how cool it is to meet people from different places and learn from each other.

T o p D e s t i n at i o n s f o r t h e H o l i d ay SHOURYA PENAKALAPATI As the holiday season is in full swing, and the holiday break is right around the corner, I thought it would be a good idea to name some of the best/ most popular destinations during the holidays! Whether you like seeing the beautiful Christmas lights everywhere and being in the middle of a huge city, or in paradise sitting on a beach, going on a trip during the holidays can be a fun and exciting experience! New York City When you think about what city truly encapsulates the joy and spirit of Christmas and the holiday season, New York City is often the first place that comes to mind. Whether it’s the lights hung on every street, the snowfall, or the incredible shopping and food, there is no place truly like NYC during the holidays. NYC has some incredible places to visit during the holidays, such as, Rockefeller Center and its iconic Christmas tree, Bryant Park Holiday Market, and Broadway shows that will blow your mind! The city also offers incredible holiday shopping on 5th Avenue and in SoHo, as the stores are also beautifully decorated with lights and artwork.
Hawaii Although Hawaii may not be covered in snow, it is still an incredible paradise to be in during the holidays. Hawaii has incredible weather during December, making it a nice getaway from the frigid upstate temperatures. Hawaii has some of the most famous beaches in the world, in places like Honolulu and Wai’ki’ki, which would make for a very relaxing time. Hawaii has incredible surfing and unbelievable nature to explore as well, so you won’t be bored just sitting on a beach, if that’s not your thing. Iceland If you truly feel like you want to be in a place that looks like the North Pole, Iceland is the place for you. Iceland truly has once-in-alifetime winter adventures that you will not get anywhere else. You can ride on reindeer (yes, reindeer), stay in igloos, and experience frozen waterfalls and glaciers. You can also see the breathtaking Northern lights during this time, which would be a surreal experience!

In America, we have many different New Year’s traditions, such as watching the ball drop, kissing a loved one, popping open champagne, and more. However, these customs aren’t recognized everywhere, as other cultures have their own traditions. Here you will find 10 different New Years rituals that are observed around the world. Denmark Danes have two traditions in particular that are unique to them. When the clock strikes twelve, they stand on a couch, chair, or table and jump off of it, leaping into the new year. They also smash plates on the floor, as the loud noises are known to banish evil spirits. Greece Greeks will smash a pomegranate, the symbol for prosperity and good luck, in the entryway of their house, and the more seeds that come out, the more luck and well-being the family will have in the New Year.
Spain “Las doce uvas de la suerte,” or “The twelve grapes of luck,” is a Spanish tradition where one eats twelve grapes, one at each chime of the clock. If you are able to finish the grapes within the minute, you will have a lucky and successful new year. Scotland “First Footing” is a Scottish tradition where the first person to enter the home in the New Year should be a dark haired male, and he should bring small gifts for good luck. The person is preferably a dark haired man because in the 8th century, a fair haired person could’ve potentially been a Viking. Mexico One of the most popular New Year’s traditions in Mexico is wearing colored underwear to represent different wishes for the upcoming year. Wearing red underwear will bring love, yellow will bring happiness, green will bring wealth, and white will bring peace and harmony. Japan “Osouji” is a Japanese routine where one will deep clean their home on December 31st to start the new year off on a fresh start. Cleaning will also help welcome Toshigami, a Japanese deity who appears on New Year’s and brings good luck and bountiful harvest.
South Africa When midnight hits, South Africans will toss old furniture and appliances out their windows. This signifies getting rid of unwanted complications, and is quite literally “out with the old, in with the new.” Colombia In Colombian culture, people will grab an empty suitcase and run around their block or down the street at midnight. This symbolizes plentiful travel and enjoyable adventures in the upcoming year. Finland Tin casting is a Finnish tradition where one will melt tin, beeswax, or sugar until it is molten, and pour it into a vessel of ice water. Once the tin is solidified, you cast a light against it and interpret the shape of its shadow to see what’s in store for the new year. Chile Before midnight, Chileans will place a coin in their right shoe. This ensures that their families will have good fortune and financial stability in the coming year.

BEST MOVIES FROM 2025 TORI ADAM FEIX As 2025 comes to an end, it’s time to talk about the best movies of the year. It was a particularly strong year for cinema, it was full of releases that dominated conversations, timelines, and movie theaters. Some of the most talked-about movies dominated conversations, became memes, and appeared in practically every topic: Lilo & Stitch A live-action/CGI version of the classic 2002 animated movie. It was a massive box office success, becoming the first movie in 2025 to cross $1 billion globally. A Minecraft Movie A fantasy adventure comedy by Jared Hess, starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black as unlikely heroes who must master the blocky world of Minecraft to defeat an invading Piglin army. Superman Directed by James Gunn, It is a reboot of the franchise and the first film in the new DC Universe (DCU).
The films that stood out for their direction, screenplay, visuals, and performances, the most praised by critics: One Battle After Another An action-thriller film from the acclaimed writerdirector Paul Thomas Anderson, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as a washed-up CORA BARTON
revolutionary forced back into action to rescue his missing daughter. No Other Choice A South Korean satirical comedy thriller directed by Park Chan-wook. The movie talks about a desperate recently laid-off man who starts eliminating his job rival to secure a new position and support his family. Sorry, Baby A critically acclaimed American black comedy-drama movie written, directed, and starring Eva Victor. The movie explores the complex and emotional journey of a university professor after she suffered a sexual assault.
I asked Allendale Columbia School students and staff their favorite movies that came out in 2025, these were the most commented: Wicked: For Good It is the second installment of the two-part film adaptation of the popular Broadway musical Wicked. It concludes the story of Elphaba and Glinda played by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, exploring their diverging paths and ultimate reunion. F1 An American sports drama movie by Joseph Kosinski and starring Brad Pitt. The film follows a formula 1 driver who returns to the sport to mentor a young talented man, exploring themes of ambition, and the intense pressure of elite racing at the highest level.

AI USE
WINTER COLOGNE
TORI ADAM FEIX
MARC VOLOSHIN
Artificial intelligence, more commonly known as AI, is a computer system that can perform tasks that usually require human intelligence, such as learning, problem solving, decision making, and language understanding. Lately people are widely using AI due to its ability to offer benefits both in daily and professional life. It has become a practical tool that became a part of many aspects of modern society.
Narcotic Delight by Initio Narcotic Delight is an absolute banger and has quickly became one of my favorite fragrances. A delicious combination of cherry, floral, cognac, peppery, tobacco, and vanilla notes. It doesn’t lean too heavily on any singular note. It is incredibly well-balanced. Lasts all day without being overbearing. Haltane by Parfums de Marly It can be worn year-round, although it smells best in the winter. Haltane’s oud is thoroughly polished, with no rough edges, and enhanced by the sweetness of a praline accord (ethyl maltol). Perfume enthusiasts, particularly men, have praised this profile for its complexity and stellar performance. Haltane is the warmest and smoothest among the fragrances on this list. Killian Angels Share Kilian’s Angels’ Share smells like a warm, sweet dessert with notes of cognac, cinnamon, wood, and vanilla, typically representing an expensive and refined fragrance character. It starts with a sweet and alcoholic cognac note that develops into a warm, sensual combination of cinnamon, wood, and vanilla, occasionally with undertones of praline or tonka bean. Many people describe the dry-down as having a pleasant, woodsy, and comforting vanilla-like finish. Prada Black A combination of bergamot, patchouli, angelica, amber, and coumarin (tonka bean) gives Prada Black its warm, musky, powdery, oriental-woody perfume. It has a little spicy, citrusy opening and a deeper, cozier, and more sensual dry down. It is frequently characterized as a pleasant and welcoming scent.
Plagiarism and the misuse of AI in schools has been a serious problem over the past year. The misuse hinders the development of essential skills in students, such as critical thinking and the ability to write independently. The main problem is student dishonesty and a lack of meaningful learning. Reliance on AI for school assignments is very dangerous for the student's development in class and for their intellectual autonomy.
When students let a machine do their
work for them, they lose the ability to think for themselves.
Artificial intelligence can greatly help students, and that's why it should be used in the right way. It should be seen as a support tool and not as a substitute. It can be used for brainstorming, drafting, or grammar checks. It can help with searching for sources and summarizing them, it can help you study and explain harder contents, but always review and verify the facts because AI can sometimes invent information. Artificial intelligence is a transformative force with the potential to offer so many benefits, both in academic and professional life. However, its successful and ethical use depends on a shift in perspective: AI should be viewed as a supporting tool and not as a substitute for intellectual capacity.

Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille frequently conjures up ideas of an old-money gentleman’s club with its warm, spicy, and sweet tobacco and vanilla scent. It begins with spicy notes like tobacco leaf and ginger, which are counterbalanced in the center by sweet vanilla, chocolate, and dried fruits. It ends with a creamy base of wood sap and tonka bean. It’s a powerful, luxurious, and deep fragrance that works best in the winter. Armani Stronger With You Intensely Armani Stronger with You Intensely has strong notes of vanilla, caramel, and amber wood, as well as a chestnut accord and a spicy pink pepper opening. It has an intensely warm, sweet, and spicy scent. It is frequently characterized as a warm, sensual scent that is perfect for cooler months and has a sweet, somewhat smoky mood. Dior Homme Intense Often characterized as clean and soapy, Dior Homme Intense is a refined, woodsy-floral scent with a strong, powdered iris centerpiece. Warm, sweet, and woody base notes of vetiver and cedarwood, as well as a faintly fruity hint of pear and the floral-musky aroma of ambrette seed, balance it out. It is ideally suited for cooler weather because the entire aroma is frequently considered as warm, mature, and refined. YSL Y YSL Y starts with a vibrant blend of bergamot, ginger, and apple and has a fresh, woody, and aromatic scent. A warm, sensuous foundation of cedar, tonka bean, and amberwood follows the heart’s floral combination of sage, geranium, and juniper berries. It is a rich, fresh scent that is also sophisticated and adaptable.

Entrepreneur Shourya Penakalapati CLARK LOVETT
What’s something important you’ve learned from being an entrepreneur? The most important thing I’ve learned about being an entrepreneur is keeping your cool, especially when you are with your team. If you lose your cool in front of your team, they will follow suit and fall apart. You need to keep a calm, commanding presence. What accomplishment are you most proud of so far? I would say in business, the accomplishment I’m most proud of is probably closing my first client. Has anyone given you helpful advice or support along the way? So many people. My dad is definitely the biggest person who has given me helpful advice, especially with not showing your emotions. When in situations where you need information, he advised me not to talk and just listen while the other person gives you all the information.
What tools or skills do you use the most within your team? We use a general script, but we also use our social skills. You mainly need to be yourself and make them think that they need you more than you need them. How do you feel being a young entrepreneur affects your experience? People take you more seriously, just because they can see that you want to put the work in and learn early about the business. Once you’re 21 or 22, you have the experience and know what you are doing, to the same degree as someone who might even be 30. Do you want to run your own business in the future? Yes, I definitely do want to. Something in the tech space, maybe something to do with AI or cybersecurity. I have a bunch of ideas that I would want to implement, all the way to potentially starting something in the fashion space.
KEY FOR PUZZLES
Can you tell me a little about yourself and what made you want to become an entrepreneur? Ever since I was a kid, I’ve seen my dad running businesses and managing people, and it made me want to do the same thing. I enjoy learning about tech businesses and the tech space in general. What was the hardest part about running your own team? The hardest part of running my own team is getting my team to trust me and realize that I am capable of handling them, even though I am much younger. How do you balance school and work at the same time? It’s just about working efficiently. I try to push a lot of my work meetings until the weekend. I get homework done as soon as possible when I get home from school, so I have time later in the day for meetings or emails. Did you ever want to quit? If so, what helped you keep going? Honestly, I have never wanted to quit, even though there were definitely rough patches and the learning curve was steep, but I believe it’s worth it to become a seasoned businessman at a young age.

College Gift guide TOP 1o HOLIDAY MOVIES MACKENZIE OPIRA
LAURA MILLER
As the holiday season approaches, it’s probably time to start thinking about what gifts to ask for. And as a senior, college is also on the horizon. With both those things in mind a portion of what’s on my Christmas list are things that I will be utilizing my freshman year of college. Asking for this stuff now should be helpful in alleviating stress down the line along with a lot of these items being things I wouldn’t buy for myself. I have faith in this list because many of the suggestions came from college students on TikTok sharing things they wish they had, are asking for now, or can’t live without at college. WATER BOTTLE I’m asking for either a pink bru mate / hydro jug. These ones are super cute and super high quality. It doesn’t hurt to have extra water bottles in order to stay hydrated. A RELIABLE BAG I’m asking for an L.L. Bean monogrammed tote (the medium size with the long straps) for a nice everyday bag. A lot of people suggest getting a good backpack but these bags are just so cute to me. LOUNGEWEAR Another great suggestion was loungewear. A lot of people were saying when you have morning classes a nice matching set is something that’s easy to throw on.
CHRISTMAS VACATION (1989) National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is a Christmas classic, and my personal favorite. Christmas Vacation tells the story of a dad, a mom, a daughter and a son, and the hardships of hosting during the holidays. When they just wish everything could be perfect, something happens to go wrong, but in the end, they have their Christmas miracle. (Steaming on Hulu, Disney+, and HBO Max.) THE CHRISTMAS CHRONICLES (2018) The Christmas Chronicles, starring Kurt Russel, although newer, has become a personal favorite of mine. The movie follows the life of a newly single mother and her 2 kids, Kate and Teddy. When struggling to find joy in the holiday season, Kate finds that Santa has crashed his sleigh and needs help delivering gifts, so Kate jumps to the rescue, and Teddy reluctantly joins her, but they all save Christmas together. (Streaming on Netflix) HOME ALONE (1990) Home alone, a well known christmas classic is a favorite to many. Eight-year-old Kevin McCallister and his whole extended family are flying to Paris for this year’s Christmas celebration. The night before they fly to Paris, a huge fight breaks out, and ends up with Kevin being banished to the attic. He wakes up the next morning to discover that his family had left him behind. At first, he was panicked, he later realized the freedom that comes with being “Home Alone,” including eating as much ice cream as he wanted, although being home alone was not all bliss for Kevin. (Streaming on Disney+ and Hulu) A CHRISTMAS STORY (1983) Ralphie Parker, an eight year old boy has the perfect gift idea for him for Christmas; a BB gun. Obviously, his mom did not think this was the “perfect gift.” Throughout the story, Ralphie struggles with being bullied, his mom and dad thinking little of him, and not getting a BB gun for Christmas. Although the month of December was not great for Ralphie, he makes it to Christmas with a smile on his face. (Streaming on Hulu, HBO max, Disney+, and Prime Video.) ELF (2003) Buddy The Elf is sent to the North Pole as a baby, so although he grew up alongside other elves, he did not look like the other for long. Being a human without knowing it, living in the north pole left Buddy with some unanswered questions, including why he looks different from the other elves, so he went to New York City in search of answers. (Streaming on Netflix, HBO Max, and Hulu) THE GRINCH (2000) The Grinch is a fan favorite movie that is so popular there are three different versions of it. The 2000 one, which is arguably the best, is the tale of the Grinch, whose heart is 3 sizes too small, and shelters himself away from the rest of Whoville, until one day when he decides to steal Christmas, but little Cindy Lou Who catches him in the act. Cindy Lou Who shows the Grinch the true spirit of Christmas. (Streaming on Hulu, Peacock, Prime Video, and Netflix) POLAR EXPRESS (2004) The Polar Express is about a young boy who isn’t sure if he believes in Santa. On Christmas Eve, he looks out his window to find a train stop, he then gets on the train and heads to the North Pole to see santa. The movie shows all of the fun and †he events that the boy has on the train. (Streaming on Prime Video, HBO Max, Disney+, and Hulu)
MOVE IN BAG Something else that college students said were essentials where a good move in day bag. Hulken is one brand I see the most and when that I’m asking for. They also say that outside of move in day it’s great for moving around laundry on laundry day. NOISE CANCELLING HEADPHONES One of the things at the top of everyone’s list was a good pair of noise cancelling headphones. I think it goes without saying and can be beneficial in many situations. QUALITY COAT This one is pretty self explanatory. Necessary for most people no matter where you’re going to school. Even if you’re headed down south, get a good coat to withstand weather or even a nice windbreaker. SANDALS / SHOWER SHOES Everyone suggests getting shoes for the communal showers, I’ll probably just end up using my Haviannas for that and end up replacing those with Rainbows, for walking around in. ROBE While we’re still on the topic of communal showers, a robe is also a must. Somewhat self explanatory but much more reliable than a towel after a shower. SHOWER CADDY Last on the list and the last shower essential. So you can carry all your belongings from point A to point B with ease Those are the most common items I saw on all the college student’s lists. Hopefully these are helpful suggestions and can help ease some stress later down the road in not having to scramble and buy things before college.

Whether it’s your mom, dad, sibling, or best friend, finding the right gift can feel overwhelming. To help with that problem, I have put together a small gift guide with a few things that would be great gifts for anyone! My goal for the holidays is to make sure holiday shopping is stress-free and fun in different price ranges. Scents: Perfumes/Colognes People who know me know how much I love fragrances. Fragrance can boost your confidence and make you smell spectacular for the holiday season! I personally love fragrances because they give you a commanding presence in any room you walk into. If you smell good, people will treat you with more respect, as they realize that you care about how you present yourself. I have put together a few of my favorite scents, in different price ranges, that can be great presents to give to your loved ones. $50-$100: Prada Black Prada Black is a sophisticated and modern fragrance from Prada. It opens with bergamot, layers into patchouli, and has a base of amber and musk. It’s woody, smoky, and perfect for the colder weather. $100-$250: Xerjoff Naxos Xerjoff Naxos is one of my personal favorite fragrances. It is a luxurious fragrance with notes of honey and tobacco. It opens with a bit of citrus and lavender, and slowly settles into the rich blend of vanilla and tonka bean, which everyone loves. This fragrance turns heads and is the perfect gift for someone who loves a high-quality scent.
continued from page 8 THE MUPPETS’ CHRISTMAS CAROL (1992) The classic Christmas Carol Story, but told by the Muppets, partially in song. If you are familiar with the original Christmas Carol, you will find this to be quite similar. If you aren’t familiar with the original Christmas Carol, that is ok, because there is no need to be. A Christmas Carol is the story of Ebeneezer Scrooge, who transforms from a grumpy old boss, to a kind hearted man. (Streaming on Disney+)
Clothes: Hoodies/Jackets Clothing is that gift that can’t go wrong. You can really give clothing to anyone, as it is super versatile and super thoughtful. Not only is it practical to give something nice for the winter season, but it also shows that you understand the person’s style and what makes them feel the most confident. Whether it’s a cozy hoodie or a fashionable jacket, clothes can be a great gift for your loved ones. $50-$100: Ralph Lauren Quarter-Zip Cable Knit sweater Ralph Lauren is one of those brands that live and breathe the winter season. They make some of the most amazing, high-quality outerwear pieces on the market. It is one of the most iconic fashion houses in the industry, and for good reason. Their sweaters go with anything, and they are incredibly classy and stylish. During the holiday season, you can find a lot of their sweaters on sale for just under $100. $100-$250: Cold Culture Take Off Fleece Cold Culture is a streetwear brand that many people have still not heard of. They are a Spanish brand that has gained significant traction in Europe but not in the U.S. Their Take Off fleece is one of the most comfortable jackets that you will ever have. They are also incredibly stylish for that one friend who does not want to wear just basic jackets. This is a perfect gift for one of your loved ones if you want to be different and stand out.
A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS (1965) A Charlie Brown Christmas is similar to many other Charlie Brown Specials. It is difficult to say much about the movie without spoiling it, but the plot follows the adventures of Charlie Brown at Christmas time. (Streaming on Prime Video)
MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET (1947) Although the oldest on this list, Miracle on 34th Street is a great movie. It tells the tale of Kris Kringle, a man working as a Macy’s Santa. As the movie progresses, he leans more into the role while dressing up as Santa Claus, and ends up in court debating his authenticity. (Streaming on Peacock, Paramount+, Hulu, Disney+, and Prime Video)

On November 15th, 2025, The HAC girls cross country team competed in the State Championships. Over the course of the season, the HAC girls’ cross country team slowly progressed from a team in contention for a sectional title to a team in contention for the state title. After an impressive league championship win beating out Williamson led by Hannah Governor, a team who would go on to win their sectional title in a higher class than HAC. The HAC wolves dominated the class D Section V Championship. Going into states, the HAC roster consisted of Maddie Hoffman (8th), Heba Elidrissi (9th), Sitara Sidhu (10th), Emma Squalli (10th), Sophie Deckman (10th), Caroline Deckman (10th), Katie Chapados (12th), and led by Jessica Chapados (12th). The HAC Wolves were ranked the #1 team in the state in Class D and seeded to win states by 30 points. The state championshops were held at Queensbury High School in Glens Falls. The course was particularly tough, where teams who may have ranked further apart than each other would be in closer competition. The team was dialed in and was ready to compete. As the gun fired off, Jessica Chapados went out fast and strong leading the Wolves, followed by the strong pack consisting of Maddie, Heba, Caroline, and Katie. Sitara and Sophie clawed out points from further back to put the Wolves in the best position to win. At the first mile, the Wolves executed their race plan
WESSON & TROY
perfectly with Jessica in a strong leading position and the Pack of 4 slowly finding their way up through the race. Tri-Valley’s Anna Furman led the race, with her team Tri-Valley seeded 3rd coming into the state championships. Throughout the race the competition started to string out with Jessica coming out for the final stretch finishing 7th in individual scoring and 2nd in team scoring. While we worried about Beaver River, who was seeded 2nd coming into the state championship, Tri-Valley’s fourth and fifth runners ran the races of their lives.
Although it was an upset, HAC still managed to put on the greatest sports performance in school history. Last year, the HAC wolves didn’t win sectionals, and only sent Jessica Chapados to states. This year the Wolves came through as a team to place 2nd at States, which was the highest HAC has ever placed at states and closest to a state championship an HAC team ever has been. Even though it was an upset, The HAC wolves still managed to make history. Jessica Chapados had an incredible final season, rising star Maddie Hoffman came out of nowhere, and a supporting cast formed which will keep the Wolves strong for many years to come. As the cross country season comes to an end, indoor track begins. So wish our distance team luck as they start a new season coming off this incredible year.
Today I interviewed Wesson Riveros and Troy Varrera about the upcoming basketball season. What position do you play in basketball? Wesson: King of the court (power forward) Troy: Ambassador of the ball (guard) What are your hopes for the upcoming season? Wesson: I’ve been looking at the left hand side of my brain recently, and I have been working on cooperating physically and metaphysically and having those work together. The main thing I’m hoping for is metaphysical physical cohesion. Once that happens I can hope to have full collaboration with the team, and we can work together as one band, one sound. The strength of the wolf is in the pack. Individually we shine, together we are luminous. Troy: I hope the seeds we sow in preseason manifest into a beautiful garden that bears the fruits of our labor. [Troy wanted me to mention he broke a chair during this interview.] What do you think is the strongest aspect of your team? Wesson: We got a great squad. We all want it. I think we work together in unison and cohesion, abundance. Yes, abundance. Troy: Our muscles. What do you think the team needs to work on the most? Wesson: cohesion, we need to get to the point where we can work together in unison. We need to pull each other up. We are looking to achieve Moksha, we strive to go beyond where any team has gone before (the spiritual world). Always working every day better. Troy: Working on our skills on the court. We need to work on our weaknesses and improve together as a team. Wesson wanted me to mention he did a cool trick with his pencil. It was cool. Parker wanted me to mention he is their number one fan.

The World Series has ended, and with that, the Dodgers have become the first team since the 2000 Yankees to repeat as champions. The Dodgers faced off against the Blue Jays in this year’s World Series. Going into the series, many in the media viewed this matchup as a David vs. Goliath match, with the Blue Jays as the heavy underdogs. However, their scrappy style of baseball and solid starting pitching proved to the world that their team was legit. The series went seven games, including a game that tied the longest game in World Series history - 18 innings. The two teams split the first two games, with the Blue Jays winning the first on the back of a nine-run sixth inning, and the Dodgers winning the second game after a strong pitching performance by starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The Dodgers then took control of the series by winning game 3 after 6 hours and 39 minutes of baseball. This game also featured an all-time game from Shohei Ohtani, including an 18th-inning walk-off home run from Freddie Freeman. Less than 24 hours after game 3, the Dodgers and Blue Jays faced off again. After a heartbreaker for the Blue Jays, they never gave up and persevered, tying the series 2-2. In game 4, Trey Yesavage – called up to the majors September 14th – pitched a gem, throwing seven innings of one-run baseball, leading the Blue Jays to a 6-1 victory, taking control of the series 3-2 heading back to Toronto. In a game with limited offense, Yoshinobu Yamamoto threw six innings of onerun baseball, helping the Dodgers force a game seven.
KAVIN
The World Series, which was expected to be lopsided, had turned into one of the great series of all time. With all hands on deck, Shohei Ohtani began the game, pitching quite poorly, giving up two runs in only two and a third innings of baseball. The Dodgers were down to their final three outs with their ninehole hitter, Miguel Rojas, facing the Blue Jays closer, Jeff Hoffman. In an unexpected turn of events, Rojas, who had not hit a home run since September 19th, took Hoffman deep, tying the game. The Dodgers were not done there, loading the bases, but the Blue Jays were able to escape. In the bottom of the 9th, the Blue Jays loaded the bases, and Yamamoto, who threw 6 innings the day before, came in to save the Dodgers. The Blue Jays’ rally fell short, and so the game went to extras. The tenth inning did not include any offense, but in the eleventh inning, Will Smith hit a home run to take the lead, putting all the pressure on the Blue Jays. Yamamoto came back out to pitch the eleventh, already having thrown 20 pitches after 96 the day before. After getting himself in a jam, Yamamoto was able to induce a ground ball double play, saving and winning Game 7 and the World Series for the Dodgers. Yamamoto won games 2, 6, and 7 – becoming the first pitcher to win three games in the World Series since Randy Johnson in 2001– winning World Series MVP, leading the Dodgers to be the first team to win back-to-back in 25 years.
Kavin Natarajan is a student athlete who plays golf and dives competitively. Today we interviewed him and asked about his experience with both sports and what advice he would give to others. What sport do you prefer, golf or diving? I prefer diving. How long have you been diving? I have been diving for 13 years. How do you balance athletics and schoolwork? I just do it. I make sure to have good time management, I always get it done. Recently we interviewed Clark Lovett, who seemed to think you were bad at golf, what do you think about that? I am ten times better than Clark. Anytime, anywhere let’s do it. Do you plan on doing anything differently next golf season? I want to practice at Oakhill Country Club more. Any advice for other student athletes? Practice harder, never stop trying to improve. Is there anything you would like to improve on? My golf outfits. Do you plan on diving or playing golf in college? Yes, I plan on continuing both sports while in college. What is your favorite part of each sport? I like to improve my diving skills and capabilities. Every time I try to do better. Golf is great because it is relaxing and fun. What would you say to anyone who wants to try either sport? Just make sure to practice and always try your hardest. Practice makes perfect. Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. Thank you for having me.

The HAC Indoor track team is gearing up for another monumental season. The track team brings in athletes with different skill sets and physical statures and allows them to compete and thrive in the event of their choosing. After a record breaking season senior Jessica Chapados is coming into the season hot after multiple school records being taken down in the XC season followed by Katie Chapados the HJ and middle distance All-American star. Aside from the distance events, long jumper Wagso O’Brien is coming into the indoor season in search of a spot at the national championships after barely missing the cutoff last season. Sydney Clark is expecting a breakout season, Sydney was the #1 ranked discus thrower in the state for 8th grade girls last year dominating her competition. As she gains more confidence and grows into her frame she is destined for greatness this year. As we have great individual talent, we also have great team talent in the relays. Last year, the girls managed to notch all-american status in the distance medley relay placing highly at the Adidas National Track Championships. After the girls placement of second at states in cross country, the girls are certain to have some great relays put together and possible records being taken down. One of the top racewalkers in the state, our own Charlie Dickinson is also in search for a spot at the national tournament. After missing states barely last year off a debated call by a referee, she is hungry for more. At our first league meet Charlie broke out with an incredible time and is currently leading all of Section V in the 1500m racewalk with a time of 7:58.09, the only time under 8 minutes in Section V so far. After a double sectional title win with both boys and girls claiming a sectional brick last year, hopefully the success can be repeated this year. The team broke 6 school records at the meet on December 13th.
What part of your game do you think has improved the most this season? Well, I didn’t get to play last season, but I think what has improved the most is my overall confidence shooting the ball, knowing that it will go in eventually. What’s one skill you’re still trying to get better at? I think finishing on fast breaks, not getting all the easy baskets I want to. Definitely my free throws, gotta hit those. How would you describe your playing style? I think my playing style is bucket getter, “imma get a bucket no matter how.” Whether it’s a three or a layup, I’m going to get a bucket. It’s not all about offense, though. I bring the intensity on defense as well. What’s your role on the team, and how do you embrace it? I’m a senior this year, I have the captain position. I’m really just embracing it, getting the team to work together. Increasing energy when the team is down. I gotta have the team trust in me when I gotta do what I gotta do. Who do you model your game after or look up to in basketball? I watch a lot of Luka Dončić highlights. He’s kinda like me, he’s not super athletic. I also look at Paolo Banchero; his footwork is elite, and the way he gets buckets, I think it’s pretty similar to the way I do, in terms of the spots he’s shooting at and the looks he’s getting in games What’s your pregame routine or superstition? I like to listen to some chill music, nothing too hype. Gotta have a pack of Gushers. I also try to get a good lift in the day of the game. I also have to eat a sausage, egg, and cheese from Starbucks for breakfast in the morning. How do you prepare mentally for close, high-pressure games? Honestly, I try not to think about it, scores always zero to zero. I try not to overthink that I need to get a bucket. Just gotta play like I always play. How do you bounce back after a bad game or tough loss? I go home, and I like to think about where I could have done better, what I could have done better. I think about those little things before the next game. When the ball was in the air on that final shot, what were you thinking? I knew that was green, I knew it was going in. The ball didn’t even release from my hands, and I knew it was going on. I didn’t even notice the defense in front of me. There was a guy in front of me, and I didn’t even notice he was there. What’s the first thing you remember after the shot went in? I remember the whole team just swarming me; it was the best feeling in the world. It felt good. I just remember the feeling of knowing this was what I worked to do. Every kid dreams of hitting the game winner, and this was my first one.

SPORTS ROUND UP DECEMBER LIAM MITCHELL
The 2025 NFL season has been a flashback in time. The Patriots and Broncos are the top two seeds in the AFC. The Chiefs are in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014. The biggest storyline is obviously the Chiefs, who, since Patrick Mahomes has been their starter, have never missed the AFC Championship game. It seems like every year, the Chiefs and Mahomes are hosting the AFC Championship with the expectation that they will end up in the Super Bowl. Another household name in the playoffs for the past 8 years has been the Buffalo Bills, led by Josh Allen. Since Tom Brady left, the Bills have dominated the AFC East, but this year has been different. With four weeks to go, Drake Maye and the Patriots have firm control of the division. With a win this week at home against Buffalo, they would clinch the division, but even if they lose this week, they still control their own destiny. In this scenario, the Patriots just need to beat the Dolphins and Jets in the final two weeks, and no matter what happens over the next two weeks against the Bills and Ravens, the Patriots would capture their first AFC East crown in six years. Elsewhere in the AFC, the Ravens and Bengals, who coming into the year, were both projected playoff teams, are on the outside looking in. The AFC North could end up with one of the wildest finishes in recent memory. If either the Ravens or the Steelers win out, they win the division. Although the Ravens have two tough nondivision games, Green Bay and New England, if they were to split those games, they would need to win every other game as well as have
Pittsburgh lose a game prior to their week 18 matchup. In the AFC West, the Broncos have firm control of the division with an 11-2 record and the number one seed in the AFC. In the AFC South, the Jaguars and Texans are in a tight battle. The Texans began the season 1-5, but with their defense playing as well as any unit in the league,
they have rattled off seven straight. If the Jaguras win three of their last four, with the most likely loss coming against the Broncos, and the Texans win out, the Texans win the division. However, if the Jaguars win out or lose one game and the Texans lose one of their remaining games, then the Jaguars would win the division. In the NFC, there is nothing too out of the ordinary, but coming into week 14, the Bears were the #1 seed, but after a loss to the Packers on the road, they fell all the way to the #7 seed, which shows how close the NFC race is. Next week, Thursday Night Football is between
the Rams and Seahawks, which will most likely decide the winner of the NFC West and the #1 overall seed in the playoffs. The one team that is surprisingly outside of the playoffs right now is the Detroit Lions, since they were the #1 seed in the NFC last year, but were upset at home by the Washington Commanders in the NFC Divisional round. Even though the Lions are 8-5, they could finish 11-6 and miss the playoffs. To make the playoffs, it will most likely need to be by winning the division, but if it isn’t, there is still a path. To make the wildcard, the Lions would need to win all their remaining conference games against the Vikings, Rams, and Bears, and the 49ers would need to lose all of their remaining conference games against the Bears and Seahawks. In this scenario, the Lions would have the tiebreaker due to their superior record in games against common opponents compared to the San Francisco 49ers. To win their division, the Lions would need to most likely win out, but if they go 3-1, with a loss to the Rams, they can still win the division. The Lions would need the Packers to lose two of their remaining four games and the Bears to also lose two of their final four games, and one of these losses would have to be to Detroit in week 18. This season, there are some major teams missing from the playoffs, but that has not eliminated the chaos. There are so many teams on the outside looking in that have a chance to steal a playoff spot. The end of the regular season is shaping up to be one of the best in recent memory.

The origin of thanksgiving

Thursday, November 19, was Allendale Columbia’s annual Thanksgiving lunch. This lunch is a very special Allendale tradition and is enjoyed by many. Every section of lunch gets to enjoy turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, gravy, and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies for dessert. The pumpkin chocolate chip cookies are one of the most popular desserts at AC. Everyone always asks for the recipe, which you can find below. I asked our lunch ladies, Patty Babcock, Laura Reynolds, Kristie Clark, and Carolyn Thompson about Thanksgiving lunch, and below are their responses: How many pounds of turkey did you make for Allendale’s Thanksgiving lunch? We cooked 140 pounds of turkey. How many cookies did you make? We made about 720 of the pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. How many loaves of bread did you use? We used 24 loaves of bread for the stuffing How many cranberries did you use? We will use 15 pounds of cranberries for cranberry sauce. What is your favorite thing to make? My favorite thing to make is the pumpkin chocolate chip cookies! My personal favorite part of the AC Thanksgiving lunch is having free seating. I get to eat Thanksgiving with my friends, and the pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. Thanksgiving is a great time of year, and I love seeing my family at Thanksgiving dinner, but having a similar experience with my friends during school is great too!
Thanksgiving, a holiday most commonly celebrated in the United States and Canada, remembers the harvest feast shared by the English colonists, and lets us be thankful for all we have around us. Thanksgiving can look like many different things to different people. To some people, it’s spending time with friends watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and the Thanksgiving football game. For other families, they enjoy the tradition of doing a turkey trot. For others it’s cooking a huge dinner with loved ones, and to some, it’s just a regular Thursday. Some traditional Thanksgiving foods include cranberry sauce, turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, pie, and bread. The origin of Thanksgiving started on the fourth Thursday of November in 1621, with the harvest feast. The harvest feast took place in what is now southeastern Massachusetts, and at the time, there were and have been many Native American Tribes living in that area. Because there were so many Native Americans living in that area for so long, hunting, gathering, and harvesting has gone on for many generations. The group of people who invaded the area were known as Puritans. The Puritans wanted to

take over the area to free themselves from the English Church. Their original plan was to settle in what is now New York City, but due to weather issues when travelling across the ocean on the Mayflower, they decided on what is now Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Winters get extremely cold, so to prepare for this the Puritans collected all the materials they could find. This meant taking some of the belonging from the Native American tribes. After numerous meetings, the Native Americans decided to help the Puritans. They helped the Puritans in areas such as growing corn, and protection against other invaders. This was mutually beneficial. On a day where they were preparing for the winter, one of the tribes heard a gunshot, and presumed it was the Puritans preparing for war. After realizing that it was only the Puritans hunting, they decided to have a harvest with each other. The harvest included a meal with various meats, vegetables, and shellfish, and they celebrated the harvest with games, dancing, and singing. They celebrated the harvest in gratitude to each other, leading to the name Thanksgiving. We often like to overlook Thanksgiving, and view it as the one day a year where we get to eat endless amounts of food, it is important to remember why we celebrate, and to be thankful for the people we love and care for.
