ARTTOUR INTERNATIONAL OCTOBER 2014
TAZA BIENNIAL ATIM was happy to travel to Morocco to cover the first edition of the Taza Biennial. Our ATIMTV.COM team was present, and we had the opportunity to chat with the artists and produce a wonderful video for the event to share with our readers. The biennial was a success, according to the testimony of the artists and the media. We heartily congratulate all the artists! The event is founded and chaired by the international artist painter and curator Elmadani Belmadani and it is run in partnership with the Cultural Direction in Taza and organized in partnership with the management culture, the province of Taza, Taza municipal city and the Friends of Taza Association. The aim of the project is to create events of artistic self-renewal while also building a stable, long-term project, bonding with its host, Morocco. For each edition, the artistic director will build the event’s identity by providing opportunities to explore a specific theme such as history, globalization or temporality. The Taza Biennial presented new and exciting works by over 50 international contemporary artists, promoting them across the country and bringing national attention to Taza’s art scene. Short Description of Taza Taza is a city in Morocco, divided into three districts. The old city lies on a mountaintop, overlooking the two other districts down in the valley. The city gave its name to the Taza Gap, a valley between the Rif mountains and the Atlas mountains, which has been suggested is the true geological division between Africa and Europe. It has many historic sites: the Kasbah of Bastion, castles, waterfalls and a museum.
