Andrea’s works are inspired by Super 8 home movies from the 50s and 60s and have a nostalgic quality about them, reminiscent of days gone by.

Congratulations to Andrea for her finalist work in the Darling Portrait Prize ‘Holding Back the Years’ as pictured left.

These days I do not spend that much time looking at myself, except for seeing my reflection in the mirror during my mourning routine.... Painting this self-portrait was an act of closer inspection, self-contemplation and acceptance.

It’s all about ‘Eve’

“Eve is an equal to Adam but different and independent in her own right. She could actually argue that Eve is superior to Adam as she was created after him and any prototype errors were corrected in Eve. First came the animals, then came Adam and finally Eve. This natural hierarchy of creation means that Eve should be seen as God’s ultimate creation.

Despite her attractiveness and seductive nature in appearance, biblical references making Eve out to be the temptress were wrong. It gave forth the idea that Adam didn’t have a brain and could not make his own decisions. Instead I am correcting this belief. Eve took a bite out of the apple and by her generous and unselfish act of sharing gave Adam a bite too. She sees Eve as a pioneer, a feminist and an explorer.”
