LETTER FROM THE SHOW DIRECTOR
Dear Art Patrons, On behalf of our organization Art Miami LLC, we would like to welcome you to the Second Edition of Art Southampton - the Hamptons’ primary destination for acquiring the finest in international modern and contemporary art that the world has to offer. We are thrilled to return to the East End following our extremely warm reception from the community last summer. The 2012 VIP Preview attracted more than 3,600 collectors, art advisors, curators, designers and Southampton Hospital supporters. The overall fiveday fair attracted more than 12,000 attendees who came to the East End expressly for Art Southampton, immediately distinguishing it as the premier fair of the summer. This is a very exciting time and opportunity for the Hamptons, Eastern Long Island, our organization, participating galleries and the international community of art collectors and artists who vacation or call the East End home during the summer months. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our very supportive Host Committee and the Fair’s primary beneficiaries: Southampton Hospital and Southampton Fresh Air Home, as well as our cultural partners: The New York Academy of Art, the Southampton Center for the Arts, Ross School and the Watermill Center for their unanimous support of Art Southampton. We are especially pleased to have expanded our relationship with Southampton Hospital, one of the most vital institutions on the East End, to whom we are donating the use of our magnificent pavilion and infrastructure as the site of their 55th Annual Summer Party. I would also like to personally thank our Luxury Sponsors GRAFF Diamonds, Perrier-Jouët, Maserati North America and Brown Harris Stevens for recognizing that Art Southampton has clearly demonstrated its ability to draw in the most discernible international collectors with a keen interest in viewing and acquiring only the best the world has to offer. Eric Fischl Curates Exhibition by Renowned Alumni of New York Academy of Art The New York Academy of Art is pleased to present an exhibition of alumni work curated by Academy Senior Critic Eric Fischl, widely considered America’s foremost narrative painter. The collection includes work by some of the most accomplished artists to have graduated from the Academy in its 30-year history. The diversity of the artwork included in the show demonstrates the wide array of disciplines and personal visions that can follow an education at the Academy, whose unique curriculum combines rigorous technical and conceptual training with active critical discourse. From the sensuously rendered scenes by Alyssa Monks to Will Kurtz’s motley life-size newspaper sculptures, the extraordinary art produced by the Academy’s alumni is notable in its complexity, sophistication and range. Armed with knowledge acquired from thousands of years of cultural production, Academy artists have the freedom to produce art from a position of informed power.
