aking contemporary art and sculpture accessible to all, Canwood Gallery and sculpture park was set up with the goal of exhibiting thought provoking art and sculpture within the beautiful and inspiring countryside of Herefordshire.

Former farmer and gallery owner Stephen Dale began his life-long love affair with contemporary art when he made his first ever visit to an art exhibition, whilst being treated for leukaemia in the 1970’s. It was Carl Andre’s controversial work at the Tate, Equivalent VIII, better known by its nickname the ‘Bricks’, which provided the original inspiration for the gallery. Isoclast07 2004 Edition is now a part of Stephen’s private collection, which visitors are welcome to view on the top floor of the gallery.

Stroll around their inspirational 10 acre grounds, where you’ll find the work of Revelation by Angela Connor, a piece from Chatsworth House. You’ll also find the extraordinary work of Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Jonti Hurwitz, and Nicole Fahri. As well as Caro Burberry, Simon Probyn, Will Carr, Jaz Asbury and Andrew Dunnill, to mention but a few, and formerly the sculpture of Ed Elliott.

With free entry, Canwood Gallery is open from the 4th April - 15th September 2024, Thursday Sunday, 11am - 4pm. Evening group visits are welcome by prior arrangement. For further details call 01568 760242 and leave a message.

Canwood Gallery is proudly green and is run by solar power, it is also dog friendly, has ample parking and there is even an on-site cafe.

ur extraordinary 2024 Little Gallery Guide UK cover artists, this is the work of Ash & Plumb (Barnaby Ash and Dru Plumb).

This incredible duo work from their South Downs woodturning studio in East Sussex, UK. Together they craft unique, one-off sculptural and functional vessels from responsibly sourced green (unseasoned) oak. Their practice draws on ancient, archetypal forms for inspiration.

The stretch of land that joins together their living and creative spaces holds most meaning for them. ​Often referencing Neolithic

Ash shapes and hollows the vessels on the lathe before working in collaboration with Plumb to achieve the characterful charred, eroded and aged surfaces unique to their practice. The works are often combined with Plumb’s stitchwork repair which employs fine waxed cotton threads to celebrate and mend any natural fissures and imperfections. ​ Ash & Plumb have exhibited at many prestigeous venues throughout the UK. I

t is now just over a year since Gallery 57, Newport, opened its doors for the first time.

The new venture by former newspaper editor and journalist Nicole Garnon has grown to become a very active participant in the local arts scene in the city in south east Wales.

The gallery hosted seven exhibitions in its first year, featuring a diverse range of work from artists drawn from across the region, and has showcased the work of many jewellers, ceramicists and makers working in wood, glass and textiles.

The gallery has become something of a hub for artists to meet and network and has also played host to numerous workshops, from weekly beginners’ watercolour classes to ad hoc jewellery making, macrame, Lino printing and willow weaving sessions. It has even hosted a book launch.

2024 is already looking busy with a packed schedule of exhibitions in the diary featuring artists from

across Wales and further afield.

The programme of workshops is also expected to grow.

In addition to hosting exhibitions the gallery regularly stocks among other things, original art and ceramics, textile art, prints, cards and unique handmade jewellery.

Gallery 57 is in the heart of Newport city centre and is open five days a week from Tuesday to Saturday.

A warm welcome is guaranteed in this friendly gallery which has built a loyal following of regular customers.

The gallery opens from 9am to 5pm. Public holiday opening times may vary.

The Makers Crafts Galleries are sister galleries, one based on Monk Street Abergavenny, and the other at Craft Renaissance near Usk. Each venue has its own personality and they are proud to be showcasing traditional and contemporary arts and crafts, created by craftspeople and artists from Wales and the Borders.

The Abergavenny gallery is found within a Georgian building, with many original features and is now a quirky, delightful home to over 30 members. Monk Street is a wonderful creative quarter of the town, with other creatives, parking and cafes nearby.

The venue at Crafts Renaissance joined as a sister gallery in July 2023; the building is part of carefully converted barns, a contemporary home to approximately 30 makers. It is also building up a regular programme.

Free parking is available; the café is also very popular!

Running as artisan collectives, members help to steward the galleries, offering visitors the opportunity to meet and engage with the makers themselves.

All visitors will find a warm welcome, including dogs (on leads!).

Many of our members also offer commission based work and other classes, which you can find out about on our website.

Visitors will find a wide range of work on display; cards, photography, sculpture, textiles, woodwork, floristry, ceramics, jewellery, paintings, botanical art and stained glass, for example.

Our ethos is for sustainable, authentic handmade work which suits all occasions and budgets, from little ‘just because’ treats, to collectors’ pieces, and our customers tell us they always find “something for everyone” - one of our favourite comments is “Easily the best and most eclectic collection of arts and crafts in a 40 mile radius!”.
