Comprised of approximately fifty-five undergraduate and graduate students who have attained an exceptional level of proficiency on their instruments, the Wind Orchestra is the second artistic concert band in the University of Illinois Bands program. Similar to the Illinois Wind Symphony, the Wind Orchestra performs large and chamber wind repertoire, new and contemporary music, and has a specific curricular design focused on a variety of musical styles throughout the year. The Wind Orchestra rehearses four hours per week, and presents two concerts per semester. The performance range of this ensemble includes campus, local area, and statewide events. The Wind Orchestra is open to music majors and non-majors by audition in the fall and spring semesters.

The Illinois Wind Symphony is the premiere concert ensemble of the Illinois Bands program. Members of the Wind Symphony perform a wide range of repertoire through experiences in both large and small ensembles. The international reputation of the Wind Symphony has long defined performance excellence. The ensemble has given acclaimed performances at national conventions of the College Band Directors National Association and American Bandmasters Association, and in prestigious concert venues including Carnegie Hall in New York and Orchestra Hall in Chicago. Graduates of the Wind Symphony are members of leading orchestras and premiere US military bands, and distinguished teachers at every level of music education.

Rodney Dorsey is professor of music at the Florida State University College of Music where he conducts the FSU Wind Orchestra and guides the graduate wind conducting program. Dorsey comes to FSU from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where he conducted the IU Wind Ensemble and taught graduate conducting courses. Dorsey studied conducting with Mallory Thompson, John P. Paynter, and James Croft. He was a clarinet student of Fred Ormand and Frank Kowalsky.
Brian Doyle joined the Crane faculty in 2006. He conducts the Crane Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, and also teaches courses in conducting. At Michigan State University, he received a BME and two MM (saxophone and wind conducting) degrees. His principal teachers included John Whitwell, Joseph Lulloff, and James Forger. At the University of Michigan, he received the AMusD in wind conducting under the mentorship of Michael Haithcock.
Michael Haithcock became director of bands and professor of music (conducting) at the University of Michigan in the fall of 2001 following twenty-three years on the faculty of Baylor University. Following in the footsteps of William D. Revelli and H. Robert Reynolds, Professor Haithcock conducted the internationally renowned University of Michigan Symphony Band, guided the acclaimed graduate band and wind ensemble conducting program, and provided administrative leadership for all aspects of the University of Michigan’s diverse and historic band program. Haithcock is a graduate of East Carolina University and Baylor University.
Dana Pradervand-Sedatole is a music education specialist with the Michigan State University College of Music. Serving as the associate director of bands at the University of Houston Moores School of Music since 2019, she brings more than thirty-five years of teaching experience. Pradervand-Sedatole serves as past president of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). She is a graduate of Texas Tech University and a student of James Sudduth. After completing her degrees, Pradervand-Sedatole began studying with Eddie Green.
Scott Rush is the team lead for the Habits series by GIA Publications and is the former director of bands at Wando High School in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. He is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and the University of South Carolina. He currently serves as co-conductor of the Charleston Wind Symphony, a semi-professional ensemble in Charleston, South Carolina.
Kevin Sedatole serves as director of bands and professor of music at the Michigan State University College of Music. At MSU, Professor Sedatole serves as administrator of the entire band program totaling over 700 students that includes the Wind Symphony, Symphony Band, Concert Band, Chamber Winds, Campus Bands, Spartan Marching Band, and Spartan Brass. He also guides the graduate wind conducting program in addition to conducting the MSU Wind Symphony.
Emily Threinen is an associate professor of music and serves as director of bands at the University of Minnesota School of Music in the Twin Cities. In this position, she conducts the acclaimed University Wind Ensemble, guides the graduate wind band conducting program, and provides administrative leadership for all aspects of the UMN–TC band program. Threinen is a native of Minnesota and is a proud alumna of the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities; Class of 1999: bachelor of music degrees in clarinet performance and K–12 music education.
Nicholas Williams is a professor of music and serves as the director of bands at the University of Georgia, where he coordinates one of the country’s largest and most comprehensive university band programs, conducts the University of Georgia Wind Ensemble, and oversees the graduate wind band conducting area. Professor Williams earned the BM (music education), MM (performance-conducting), and DMA (conducting) degrees from the University of North Texas.
