Antonio Molinari is a Detroit based abstract painter, mastering the relationship of color and movement. Growing up in rural Michigan, Molinari was surrounded by the beauty of nature, where his love of art was inspired. While he has always had a childhood appreciation for natural beauty, it wasn’t until college when he finally embraced his passion for the arts. In 2003, he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Detroit College for Creative Studies in Transportation Design, and has since worked as a creative designer for Lincoln Motor Company. Molinari’s design background, paired with a great appreciation for nature, has helped in pushing the boundaries of abstract painting. At first glance, his gigantic canvases are beautifully chaotic, with layers of color intertwining together; yet once you are immersed in the art, his deliberate lines and calculated techniques surface.

Inspired by contemporary masters such as Paul Jenkins and Helen Frankenthaler, Molinari creates worlds of translucent colors, intertwining like veils suspended in space. His simple motions and complex layering create a beautiful marriage of hues on canvas that is undeniably exciting. Whether it is a chromatic spectrum or a single hue; a beautiful juxtaposition of his passion for design and appreciation of nature. Molinari’s career as a contemporary abstract painter has taken off in the past few years. His works such as Cascade and Tropical Emulsion won special merit and recognition awards for his beautiful use of color and space, and he was honored to be a part of the highly anticipated biennial ArtPrize exhibition in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His art is proudly displayed in various collections throughout Michigan.

“My goal is to combine my inspiration and understanding of color to convey a positive and uplifting energy in my painting. The common bond in all the work is my intuitive use of color and negative space that dramatically conveys a sense of harmony and balance. Antonio Molinari
