By Josef Ramos
MALACA Ñ ANG asked gymnastics champion Carlos Yulo to pay President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. a visit before he returns to Japan to vigorously train for September’s world championships in Belgium.
Palace officials told the Philippine Sports Commission about President Marcos’s desire to meet Yulo—who recently won gold medals in floor exercise, parallel bars and vault at the Asian championships in Singapore. The meeting is set August 9, according to Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president Cynthia Carrion-Norton.
“Malacañang wants to see Caloy before he goes back to serious work for the world championships,” CarrionNorton told BusinessMirror on Thursday. “He will be training seriously in Japan by mid-August ahead of the world championships.”
I’m very sure President Marcos will give him words of encouragement to bring home the gold and qualify for the Paris Olympics,” she said. T he House of Representatives, according to Carrion-Norton, also wants to honor Yulo through Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Yulo is competing at the September 29 to October 8 world in Antwerp which are a qualifier for the Paris Olympics. He’s skipping the Hangzhou Asian Games to fulfill his goal of returning to the Olympics after Tokyo 2021.

Bronny James was in stable condition Tuesday, and patients who experience an unlikely cardiac arrest often undergo numerous tests over multiple days to determine the cause. He spent only a brief time in intensive care—a positive sign for his long-term recovery from the frightening episode. Bronny’s 16-year-old brother, Bryce, posted a photo of the two on his Instagram story, along with a heart.
