TBC, VALVOLINE PARTNER TO SUPPORT RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE

TBC Corporation announced in a press release that it has partnered with Valvoline to support Aligned in Hope, a program to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities.

The program started in 2020. During September, Valvoline will make a donation to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Bluegrass in Lexington, Ky., the release says.

“We are honored to partner for a second year in a row with TBC Corporation in support of RMHC of the Bluegrass in its mission to create, find and support programs that directly improve the well-being of families. This is something incredibly meaningful to Valvoline every day,” Valvoline CEO Sam Mitchell said in the release.

AUTOMAKERS REQUEST API TO DEVELOP SP SUPPLEMENT

Several automakers requested the lubricants group of the American Petroleum Institute to add a supplement to the API SP specification.

The letter, sent on August 18 by Ford, GM, Stellantis and Toyota, requested an aged oil test for protection against lowspeed pre-ignition in turbocharged gasoline direct injection engines, according to a report from Lubes ‘n’ Greases.

“We request that the supplement include all the performance requirements presently in API SP plus the requirements of meeting the limits set for the aged oil LSPI performance of a lubricant,” said Ford Motor Co.’s Michael Deegan, chairman of the International Lubricants Standardization and Advisory Committee.

The letter said studies have shown the potential for damage from low-speed pre-ignition increases as engine oils age.

TIRE SHOP PROPERTY TO BECOME TAKE 5 IN N.C.

A local tire shop will make way for a Take 5 Oil Change in North Carolina.

The former site of Boone Tire Center in Boone, N.C., will become a Take 5. The tire shop closed after 40 years in business, reports the Watauga Democrat.

An entity called Take 5 Carolinas Property purchased the site for $690,000, the paper reported.

GREASE MONKEY, MASTER LUBE PARTNER TO HELP CHILDREN

Two regional quick lube operators have joined forces to help disadvantaged children.

Grease Monkey of Clinton, Utah, has partnered with Master Lube of Roy, Utah, to work with the Utah Weber Fraternal Order of Police on a program that aids children. The program is also a collaboration between the police departments in the Utah towns of Weber and Morgan, according to a press release. Officers, public safety employees shop with local kids for items like shoes, clothing, school supplies and backpacks.

“Our business and crew teams recognize the importance of not only providing honest, trustworthy, and convenient preventive maintenance service, but to also engage and get involved in our community needs,” market manager Ryan Slade said in the press release. “In today’s world, we all feel the need to be the change, and to help police officers build positive relationships with kids and their families is a program we will continue to stand behind.”

JIFFY LUBE LAUNCHES EV REPAIR PILOT PROGRAM

Jiffy Lube is experimenting with a complete service package for electric vehicles at seven stores across the country.

The package, called the Electric Vehicle Signature Service, is a pilot program to see how well the company can handle EVs in their shops, according to a report from Forbes. The package includes general services such as multi-point safety inspections and tire rotations, as well as more focused offerings geared toward an EV’s battery.

“Consumers have really transitioned to wanting more of a one-stop shop for all of their auto-maintenance needs, and we’ve evolved,” Jiff y Lube President Edward Hymes said in the report. “Maintenance now is much more important in how consumers view vehicles ... it’s an investment for them, and they want to maintain it for longer.”

The seven shops are located in California, Oregon, Texas and Florida, which have a higher number of EVs on the road.

JIFFY LUBE FRANCHISEE AWARDS 4 ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Team Car Care, a Texas-based franchisee of Jiff y Lube, recently awarded several scholarships to members of its team and their families.

The brand gave away four $2,000 academic scholarships earlier this summer. Three employees—two in California and one in Illinois—as well as the daughter of an employee in Minnesota were this year’s recipients, according to a news release.

“This award will allow me to concentrate more on my schooling and take away the fi nancial stress that college can bring,” recipient Emmanuel Maldonado said. “Thanks to you, I will be able to lessen the fi nancial burden on myself and my family, helping us tremendously in this unpredictable time we are going through.”
