The slightly delayed 2021 Awards Season officially launched on February 3 when nominees were announced for the 78th Golden Globe Awards. The following day, Mix held its first-ever virtual Awards Season event, featuring four-plus hours of interviews with the production sound mixers, supervising sound editors, rerecording mixers, composers and songwriters behind some of the year’s biggest films.

Nominations and voting deadlines are fast approaching for Best Sound, Best Song, Best Original Score and many others at the 2021 Oscars, MPSE Golden Reel Awards and CAS Awards. If you’re a voter, take note.

In the meantime, the pandemic may have affected theatrical distribution, but the major streaming services have stepped up and awardworthy sound jobs are still being made.
