For more than 30 years, Ericsson has partnered with JDRF, a leading global organization that funds research into type 1 diabetes (T1D). The organization envisions a world without type 1 diabetes, and works to accelerate breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D.

In November 2019, Ericsson hosted JDRF’s ONE Walk on our campus in Plano, Texas. For the third year in a row, Ericsson employees from the 7 employee resource groups and 11 functional units in MANA, along with their friends and families, participated as volunteers, walkers and supporters. In addition to the annual walk, Ericsson matches 100% of employee donations to JDRF, and regularly holds smaller events such as auctions, bake sales and ping-pong tournaments.

Since 2012, Ericsson has donated more than half a million dollars to JDRF. But our dedication isn’t simply financial.

T1D patients often rely on IoT solutions to manage their health. For example, continuous glucose monitors can send alerts to phones to notify patients of a “high” or a “low.” Other developments, like artificial pancreas (AP) systems, will use connected technologies to automate processes a healthy body does on its own. For the last two years, Ericsson has supported multiple IoT solutions for diabetes. Currently, Ericsson’s subscriber identity module (eSIM)-based cellular network is part of a pilot for a Swedish startup’s IoT-based glucose reader and insulin injector in the United Arab Emirates. 1

Through our ongoing support of this important organization and the development of life-saving IoT devices, we’re confident that one day JDRF’s vision of a world without T1D will be a reality.
