Meet the expert
Ericsson’s “Regional Connect Magazine” recently sat down with Bill Chotiner, Chief Technology Officer, Regional Carriers Customer Unit, to learn how he became a technology expert, why he’s passionate about our industry and bullish on the future of 5G, and what makes him tick. Turns out he not only has a well-rounded understanding of the wireless business – from RF to the voice and pocket core side – and Ericsson’s customers, but he’s also a family man, who had an early brush with stardom.
Q: Why do you love what you do?
A: I work for a great company. We have great technology and great people – and I have great customers. Every day I come in, I get to help my customers solve problems, and really work with them to make a difference.
Q: What are you really excited about in the industry right now?
A: When I look at 5G, I say, “5G will change the world.” And we don’t even know how yet. I can go back 10 years ago, when were just starting to roll out LTE. We didn’t know that the whole taxicab system was going to be different due to something like Uber. I think 5G has so much promise. It’s going to be transformative, and we haven’t even gone below the water of the iceberg yet. 5G is going to connect households, connect buildings. Today, that’s not done well in the rural segment. So I think that’ll really be the first good use case of 5G for the rural customers.
