Artica Svalbard is an arts foundation based in Longyearbyen, Svalbard. The purpose of the foundation is to facilitate artistic and cultural activities on Svalbard, and to support the development of Norwegian and international art and culture. Artica offers the opportunity to reside: to observe, participate, immerse, rethink, create and present art from all genres. The foundation aims to raise awareness of and ask questions about the polar regions’ relevance to fields such as culture, climate change, ecology, geopolitics, migration and minorities.
Our growing local and international community will challenge the way in which the Arctic is seen, organised and managed, setting the ground for the possibility to affect change; our understanding of national identity and rights connected to resources – at sea and on land – now and in the future.
