ArtHouseJersey Spring/Summer 2026

Thank you to our supporters

ArtHouse Jersey is Jersey’s arts charity, and it is thanks to the generous support of our funders, sponsors, patrons and partners, that we are able to bring ambitious, accessible and inspiring art to communities across the island throughout our Spring/Summer programme.

Public investment, provided as a grant by the Economy Department, provides the vital platform that enables our charity to operate. This support recognises the role of creativity in entertaining, challenging and inspiring, but it also does something more - it helps people feel connected, strengthens communities and makes Jersey a more vibrant place to live, work and visit. From children encountering art for the first time, and Islanders discovering creativity in unexpected places, to artists developing ambitious new work, our role is to make space for art to happen and to make sure as many people as possible can take part.

Alongside public funding, we are deeply grateful to our corporate sponsors, whose belief in the value of the arts helps us extend our reach, take artistic risks and deliver projects that would not be possible working alone. Their support strengthens Jersey’s creative economy and connects art with business, tourism and community life.

Together, you make art happen in Jersey - thank you.

Perotine

Inspired by the True Story of Guernsey Martyrs

WEDNESDAY 29 APRIL, 7PM

ArtHouse Jersey at Capital House

As part of the Channel Islands Contemporary Art Show, ArtHouse Jersey invites you to the gallery for the launch of local author Dreena Collins’ powerful new novel, Perotine, that revisits one of the most haunting episodes in Guernsey’s history.

Abandoned, faithful, and on trial for heresy.

In 1556, three ordinary women found themselves at the centre of a trial that spiralled into accusations of heresy; Perotine Massey, Guillemine Gilbert, and Catherine Cauchés were later dubbed ‘The Guernsey Martyrs’. Perotine is a new novel inspired by this dramatic true tale.

Deeply entrenched in the landscape of the island at the time, the novel draws on themes of nature, foraging, and isolation, exploring the additional challenges that the natural world posed during a period of religious upheaval and hostility.

Join Dreena Collins as she discusses the women’s lives and trial, the challenges of retelling this story, and how the landscape of Guernsey helped to shape her narrative.

Come along to hear more about these emotive events and enjoy select readings from the novel, while enjoying the artworks on display.

Tickets: £8 via Eventbrite.

Pop Up

Exhibition Series: Corey Chad Ceccarelli, Nina Zaech, Corina Tuinea

The Collins Pop Up Exhibition Series invites the community to enjoy the work of local artists in ArtHouse Jersey’s unique exhibition space for a short ‘pop up’ time period.

Corey Chad Ceccarell is a Canadian contemporary multi-disciplinary artist who now resides in Jersey. His art blends themes of energy, humanity, science, nature, and sexuality using mediums such as acrylics, found objects, and recycled materials to create works that aim to resonate with emotion and curiosity.

Nina Zaech creates minimal and optical drawings, linoprints and large scale acrylic paintings which are exploring geological elements and rock formations. For this exhibition she has made playful drawings and wood panels which were inspired especially by working with clay and making bread dough.

Corina is a young artist interested in the eerie, fantastic and uncanny. She takes inspiration from her experience of having lived in many places, as well as her vivid imagination. Currently Corina enjoys overlaying thick paints onto sketches to create dense and absorbing representations of reality.

Jersey Opera House

Held in the Tide

Experience a bold new contemporary opera, created with and for the people of Jersey.

Held in the Tide is a powerful new contemporary opera conceived by Georgia Mae Bishop and developed in collaboration with young creatives and community voices. Created with and for the people of Jersey, this hour-long production premieres at the newly reopened Jersey Opera House, offering a fresh, welcoming way into opera, whether you’re a seasoned theatre-goer or completely new to the artform.

Blending classical, folk, and musical theatre influences, the score draws inspiration from the Island’s tides, rhythms, and multilingual soundscape, creating a rich theatrical experience.

The story unfolds on a windswept shoreline after a storm reveals three long-buried stones. Their reappearance sparks a meeting between Lillie, a geologist returning home after years away, and Frances, an artist deeply rooted in Jersey. As the past rises to the surface, the show gently explores ideas of memory, belonging, progress and how we care for what we inherit while making space for change.

Tickets: £20 via the Jersey Opera House website.

Performed in everyday language and filled with warmth, humour, and emotional depth, Held in the Tide places Jersey’s voices at its heart. Jersey-born professional performers are joined by a community chorus. The result is a landmark cultural moment: a new opera shaped collaboratively, placing Island voices at the centre, and shared on stage with generosity, humanity, and imagination.

Commissioned and produced by ArtHouse Jersey. Developed and presented in partnership with Jersey Opera House. Part of ArtHouse Jersey’s New Work Programme sponsored by Coutts Crown Dependencies.

Easter Pop-Up: You Me and the Sea

You, Me and the Sea is an exhibition showcasing artwork created by families who took part in creative nature workshops at Grève de Lecq with ArtHouse Jersey.

This project is a collaboration with the CAMHS Early Intervention Team, who support families and communities to build and maintain positive mental health and wellbeing; Ocean Culture Life, who connect ocean advocates through storytelling; and the National Trust for Jersey, who bring expertise in the local natural environment.

The workshops took inspiration from the area’s dynamic coastal surroundings, offering families an opportunity to connect with nature. The natural environment can generate positive emotions such as calmness and joy, while also supporting concentration and creativity. You, Me and the Sea explores the theme of ‘nests’ through sketchbooks, printmaking, photography, storytelling, and land art.

Jersey Markets Residency: Islanders & Hanging On

Since January this year, Jersey-based photographer Connor Daly and visual artist Oliver Le Gresley have been artists-in-residence at Jersey Markets. This is the second Jersey Markets Residency project, following last year’s Fish Wish: Paîsson d’Pâssion by Karen Le Roy Harris and Esther Rose Parkes.

From February through to April, both artists will create distinct new works responding to the markets, their community and history. Daly is developing a series of photographic portraits titled Islanders, made in collaboration with market traders and displayed in a pop-up gallery in the Fish Market. Le Gresley’s work, Hanging On, features subtle architectural interventions that reference the markets’ Victorian beginnings and the journeys of produce from Jersey farms to market stalls.

Both artists will work from an open studio space in the Fish Market and visitors are warmly invited to drop in, meet the artists, and see the projects take shape.

Free public artworks.

Reframing Dementia

MONDAY 25 MAY – SUNDAY 7 JUNE

Royal Square

‘Reframing Dementia’ is a photographic exhibition designed to challenge preconceptions. Featuring real people living with dementia, it captures strength, diversity, joy, skills, love, support, and optimism among its subjects. It celebrates them as real people, not solely defined by their diagnosis.

Dementia is often framed as a devastating condition. Representations in the media, and the arts, can focus on severe cognitive decline, loss of independence, and a sudden, diminished quality of life. In turn, this generates fear, stigma, and prejudice.

Diagnoses of dementia vary, as do the experiences of those living with the condition. When equipped with strategies and offered the right support, at the right time, many people with dementia can have a good quality of life, before symptoms limit their independence.

By shifting the narrative from one of despair to possibility, we can better appreciate the capabilities and potential of people living with dementia. We can give hope to those with a recent diagnosis, reducing stigma and promoting a more inclusive and supportive society in the process.

Come along to celebrate the lives of nine remarkable islanders and be prepared to have your preconceptions challenged.

‘Reframing Dementia’ features images by five Channel Island photographers (Paul Chambers, Sophie Darwin, Oliver Doran, Étienne Lainé, and Natalie Mayer) and is a partnership project between Dementia Jersey and ArtHouse Jersey.

Free entry, no booking necessary.

Port-au-Prince and its Sweet Night preceded by Antigone / Agonist

FRIDAY 3 & SATURDAY 4 JULY, 7.30PM (100 MINS)

In a candlelit room in Port-au-Prince, Zily and Ferah love, cry, remember and tear each other apart, moving to the rhythm of a city gripped by violence. Zily does not want to leave without Ferah, but he, who still feels useful there, cannot bring himself to leave the island. How can love survive in a collapsing city?

Poetic, sensual, funny and deeply moving, Haitian writer Gaëlle Bien-Aimé’s semiautobiographical play Port-au-Prince and its Sweet Night captures the whispered intimacy of a sprawling, broken place. Two lovers live to the pulse of the city’s streets, caught between staying to hold its future or fleeing to save themselves.

A powerful evening of poetry and theatre directed by acclaimed Ukrainian–French director Lucie Berelowitsch and produced by Le Préau (Vire, Normandy), performed by two extraordinary actors.

“A play of radiant sensuality: a real joy and great pleasure” - Chantiers de Culture

Performed in French with English subtitles.

The performance is preceded by Antigone / Agonist, a new music-text poem inspired from Greek tragedy and recurring histories of resistance, the sacred and unjust power. Created and performed by Jersey-based musicians Rui Figueiredo (guitar), Michael Freeman (saxophone) and James Tyson (voice).

Plus: Join the performers for a post-show discussion on SAT 4 JULY.

Presented in association with the Maison de la Normandie et de la Manche.

Grace

MacDonald & Shamica Ruddock

FRIDAY 17 JULY 2026 AT 7PM

A welcome return to Jersey for Jersey, Swiss-based composer and musician Grace MacDonald, joined by UK-based sound and film artist Shamica Ruddock, for an evening of electronic and pop experimentation.

3rd Person, 1st Person, 2nd Person, a new audiovisual performance by Grace MacDonald in collaboration with Swiss visual artist Manon Keller, combines live music (saxophone, voice and electronics) with video. Inspired by a shared fear of being perceived online and a mutual love of video games, the work explores shifting points of view. In everyday life, perspective is fluid, we constantly see ourselves through the eyes of others. In video games, perspective is fixed or switchable at the press of a button, moving between first and third person viewpoints.

Shamica Ruddock presents a continuation of her improvised sonic project Drum Language, which used electronic experimentation to explore Maroon and AfroCaribbean folk drumming traditions. Following a residency in Jersey, she will present new work connecting her ongoing research with the island’s landscapes and histories.

Tickets: £15 via Eventbrite.

Turquoise Days are Jersey synth-wave pioneers, originally formed in the early 1980s and now enjoying a renewed international following. Their music has been rediscovered through social media, vinyl reissues and streaming releases on New York–based Minimal Wave Records in 2009, 2019 and 2024.

As interest in synth-wave continues to grow across Europe and the Americas, the band has recently played headline shows in Antwerp, Paris, Athens and Leipzig.

Full Bloom by Danny Booth

Full Bloom is a new exhibition by Jersey-based artist Danny Booth, inviting visitors into an imaginative, sensory journey shaped by the rhythms of nature and the passing seasons.

This is a space to wander, pause, and enjoy being surrounded by colour, texture, and natural forms. Across paintings, sculptures, and installations, the exhibition reflects the familiar cycles of anticipation, growth, and rest found in gardens and the natural world. Loose, intuitive marks and richly textured surfaces echo nature’s unpredictability, where growth rarely follows a fixed plan and moments of beauty often emerge unexpectedly.

Danny’s practice is deeply informed by time spent gardening and observing the landscape. His work embraces the balance between care and chance, patience and experimentation, allowing materials and processes to guide the making. Re-imagined botanical forms and layered surfaces create spaces for both intimacy and moments of quiet wonder.

Shifts in scale throughout the exhibition invite different ways of seeing from close, contemplative encounters to more immersive experiences that evoke the feeling of being surrounded by nature. Full Bloom is not a literal representation of the natural world, but a response to how it feels to move through it: curious, imperfect, surprising, and quietly joyful.

The exhibition is designed to be experienced at an unhurried pace, offering a place to slow down, look closely, and reconnect with the gentle beauty of the natural world.

OPENING CELEBRATION: THURSDAY 17 SEPTEMBER

Elizabeth Harbour, St Helier

Art in the Arches: Safe Haven

Art in the Arches returns this summer for a third year, bringing new murals and a pop of colour and activity to St Helier’s beloved Elizabeth Marina. Expect to encounter a new wave of murals evolving under the arches, each mural responding to this year’s theme: ‘Safe Haven’.

Curated by artist and educator Jacqueline Rutter, the theme, ‘Safe Haven’ encourages participants to explore ideas of safety, belonging, and connection, to the island, to the sea and to one another. Historically, harbours offer both protection and welcome; the theme reimagines Elizabeth Marina as both a literal and symbolic safe haven, a place of creativity, inclusivity, and hope.

Artistic contributors will be a mix of local artists, community groups and school children, inviting diverse perspectives and showcasing local expression. Over the summer, a program of school and community workshops will take place leading directly into the design and creation of new murals. This year’s project will draw together and display work from a diverse community of participants, fostering community connection, place-making and participation in the making of public art.

Inside Out 18

Now in its third year at Capital House, ArtHouse Jersey is proud to be working with the States of Jersey Prison Service to present Inside Out 18, an annual showcase featuring art created by prisoners from HM La Moye Prison.

There is a wide evidence base to support the importance of arts in prisons in helping prisoners improve their resilience, develop skills, confidence, expression and wellbeing. This has proven to have therapeutic effect and assists with greater emotional self-regulation.

The prisoners at La Moye are producing between 100 to 150 artworks. Each piece tells a story, offering glimpses into personal journeys, emotions and reflections of the artists. The work ranges from paintings to drawings, poetry, ceramics and woodwork. Inside Out is a rare opportunity to witness the power of creativity that can arise from adversity and the transformative power of art within prisons.

The exhibition aims to spark meaningful conversations, challenge perceptions and promote understanding and empathy within our community. Inside Out invites you to consider themes of rehabilitation and the potential for personal growth. Considering the power of art as a transformative tool for healing and self-expression, ultimately empowering individuals to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to society.

Jersey Festival of Words presents:

Some Woman, One Woman

ArtHouse Jersey is delighted to be working with Jersey Festival of Words to present a unique collaboration between words and image. Look out for further details of accompanying events and workshops closer to the date.

Soman Woman for One Woman brings together the words of Jersey-based Irish poet Danielle Mynes with visual artist Jacque Rutter, giving voice and space to female experience. The collection features twenty-two poems and is inspired by the poet’s lived experiences and perspectives. The merging of two powerful mediums takes you on a journey and serves as both a political commentary on the violence women experience daily and their enduring fortitude, and women’s capacity to love and heal the world in everyday actions. The collection speaks to female experience and the invisible threads and bonds that unite us all, spreading out across time, sea, bodies, actions, and universe, in all its divine feminine force.

For we all either are or know some woman for one woman. Let’s celebrate her and listen to her story. In seeking to understand each other, we can all grow stronger together and live more compassionately.

Rebecca Coley is a filmmaker, director, writer and producer working across documentary and narrative storytelling. She has made a number of award winning short films and this exhibition will be a mixture of a retrospective of her work to date alongside an exploration of new work including an immersive art and performance aspect in the style of talks and videos on screen.

Visitors will walk through a journey in time and view various films and the exhibition will look at how each work links to each other, making meaning from moments in time by joining them together in this way. Rebecca hopes the presentation will be surprising and there will be both funny and poignant moments plus the chance for interaction at the end.

Free entry, no booking necessary.

OCTOBER 2026

Venue and ticket info to be revealed

Society of Cocktails returns

As the season turns, it returns.

This October, Society of Cocktails emerges once again, an immersive evening of storytelling, flavour and atmosphere, appearing briefly before slipping away.

This year, the experience unfolds near the sea, shaped by shortening days, salt-heavy air and the quiet drama of the coast in autumn. Expect carefully crafted cocktails, subtle performances and environments that invite you to slow down, look closer and stay a little longer.

Whether you’ve joined us before or are discovering Society of Cocktails for the first time, consider this your invitation. Dates and location to be revealed. The tide will tell.

Give to ArtHouse Jersey

ArtHouse Jersey is the Island’s arts charity. We exist to make art happen for the people of Jersey. We bring creativity into everyday life, support wellbeing, and strengthen communities.

Public funding gives us a vital foundation, but it doesn’t cover everything we do. We rely on individuals and businesses to keep exhibitions free, reach young people, and engage people across the Island.

When you support ArtHouse Jersey, you are investing in a more creative, confident and connected Island.

Your support helps us to:

Bring art, joy and inspiration into everyday life

Improve wellbeing and reduce social isolation

Reach young people through creativity and learning

Strengthen community life through shared cultural experiences

There are many ways to support us, from making a donation or becoming a patron, to partnering with us as a business or leaving a legacy for future generations.

ArtHouse Jersey belongs to this Island. If you believe creativity should be accessible, inclusive and ambitious, we’d love you to be part of our story.
