AFTERNOON TEA WHERE DID AFTERNOON TEA ORIGINATE FROM? Afternoon Tea is known throughout the world as one of the quintessential English customs. It all began in the 1800s with Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford, a close friend of Queen Victoria and a leading figure in London society. One afternoon, she found herself with “a sinking feeling” as the long hours stretched between lunch and dinner. She wanted just a little something to tide her over, nothing too heavy, just enough to satisfy. And so, the ritual of afternoon tea was born. Originally a simple, refined affair, it has since evolved into the indulgent celebration we enjoy today.
